Kinheim wins rain-abbreviated game vs. HCAW
Nederlands
HAARLEM (Neth.) - Corendon Kinheim won 10-6 on Sunday (July 5) vs. HCAW in a game that was halted by rain in the top of the seventh. Again.

Last Thursday-evening, the first game of the series also was halted by rain in the top of the seventh, just after Kinheim had taken a 3-2 lead. With that, all actions from the seventh inning were erased, ending the game in a 2-2 tie.

Today, all actions from the seventh inning remain valid, as Kinheim led 10-6 and the lead wasn't changed when the game was halted. Due to the field conditions, the game didn't resume anymore and so, 10-6 also became the final score.

With the loss, HCAW was eliminated for first place in the second half of the season. However, the team still has a minimal chance of finishing in second place and a somewhat bigger chance of finishing in third or fourth place, which, as of now, is a qualifying position for the Play-Offs.

(July 5)

Kinheim scored its ten runs in its first five innings, but the team also left eight runners behind in that span, including the bases loaded twice.

The Haarlem-squad opened the score with three runs in the first at bat off of starter Kaj Timmermans. Kevin Moesquit led off with a walk. Moesquit returned to the line-up on Saturday after his hamstring-injury a few weeks ago and again was the DH today, instead of being the second baseman. He advanced when next batter Mervin Gario also walked and moved to third base when Bryan Engelhardt flied out. Moments later, he scored the first run on a sacrifice fly by Phil Ortez. Next, Dashenko Ricardo walked, then Jeffrey Arends and Dudley Leonora followed with runscoring singles to make it 3-0. Another walk, this time for Victor Draijer loaded the bases, but the three runners were left behind.

After being retired in order in the first inning by lefthander Nick Veltkamp, HCAW got two runs back in the top of the second at bat. Emersson Paula led off with a walk and Kevin Nieveld singled, then a single by Jarreau Martina accounted for the first run. The other two runners moved on a sac-bunt by Rikkert Kempen, then the second run was scored on a 2-out single by Max Clarijs, but HCAW then stranded two runners.

Kinheim took more distance via a 4-run rally in the fourth inning on five basehits. Rookie Victor Draijer led off with a double, then Kevin Moesquit walked with one out. Singles by Mervin Gario and Bryan Engelhardt then brought in two runs. Gario later scored when a throwing error followed a stolen base by Engelhardt. When next batter Phil Ortez walked, Tim Niekerk took over the pitching, but he was greeted with an RBI-single by Dashenko Ricardo. With two outs, Kinheim loaded then bases when Dudley Leonora singled, but left three runners behind for the second time.

HCAW stranded a runner in the third and fourth inning, then had a 4-run rally of its own in the fifth to narrow the deficit to 7-6. Marciano Philippi led off with a walk, then an error followed on a force play-grounder by Gianni Frolijk. The bases got loaded when Roy Seltenrijch singled. Next, Emersson Paula grounded to short stop Dudley Leonora for what should be a force out at second base. However, Leonora threw the ball into rightfield, resulting in all three runners being able to score, while Paula ended up on second base. Moments later, Paula scored himself on a double by Kevin Nieveld. That marked the end for Veltkamp, who was replaced by Pim Walsma. He struckout the first two batters he facedm, then gave up a single to pinch-hitter Rossini Frolijk, but HCAW then stranded runners on first and third base.

In the bottom of the fifth, Kinheim immediately took more distance by scoring three runs. Jochem Koedijk led off with a single, advanced on a wild pitch, then scored on a single by Kevin Moesquit. Hereafter, Gijs van Els became the new pitcher for HCAW. He saw Moesquit being caught stealing, then Mervin Gario flied out. Next, Van Els faced Bryan Engelhardt. While there were two outs and no runners, the powerhitter was walked intentionally! And that would lead to two additional runs. Phil Ortez then received a 'normal' walk and the two runners both scored when Dashenko Ricardo followed with a double that gave Kinheim a 10-6 lead.

In the sixth inning, Marciano Philippi again led off with a walk for HCAW. But this time, Walsma followed with a strikeout, then was supported with a double play on a line drive by Roy Seltenrijch.

After Kinheim was retired in order in the bottom of the sixth, HCAW got on base again in the top of the seventh inning. Scott Ronnenbergh became the new pitcher for the Haarlem-team, but gave up a lead-off single to Emersson Paula. Next batter Kevin Nieveld then grounded into a double play and shortly thereafter, the game was interrupted by rain.

After a waiting period of 26 minutes, the game was officially ended due to the field conditions.
