HCAW unveils new club-logo
Nederlands
BUSSUM (Neth.) -
HCAW has unveiled a new club-logo.
It is the first new logo for the Bussum-based club since 1985.
Back then, Mr. Cocker Lunchroom was the main sponsor of both the baseball- and softball-team for the first year when both squads played in the Dutch big league.
The softball-team captured the Dutch championship-title seven times, but then relegated in 2002.
The baseball-team won the title twice since playing in the highest league since 1967.
The new logo was unveiled during the New Years's Reception of the club on January 4.
After completion of last season, Mr. Cocker stopped to be the club's main sponsor after a record-setting period of 30 consecutive years.
A new main sponsor has not yet been found, meaning both the baseball- and softball-team will just are being called HCAW again.
The last time, the baseball-team was named HCAW only was in the 1981 through 1983 seasons.
In 1984, the team was sponsored by Clickets, then Mr. Cocker took over in 1985.
Before 1981, the baseball-team was sponsored since 1972 by Orwo and then Nikon.
The new logo looks back to the rich history of the club.
During the presentation, it was mentioned that the designers looked to the logo's of the big baseball-organisations in the USA in which the initials of the home city play an important role.
The 'B' in the new logo stand for Bussum, the place where HCAW plays.
But the 'B' also refers to the letter which donned the players' caps in the sixties when the team promoted to the Dutch big league.
Back then, the 'B' not only referred to Bussum, but also to its nickname 'Buccaneers' in those years.
The form of the shield in the logo resembles the buckwheat grain of the coat of arms and flag of the Municipality of Bussum, but also symbolizes 'Allen Weerbaar', which is the official name of the club (Honkbal Club Allen Weerbaar).
Another reference to 'Allen Weerbaar' are the used seams, which look like a laurel wreath that were handed to victorious persons in the old Roman days.
The bats of course stand for baseball and softball, while the year is the year the club was founded.
The new logo has been created based on ideas by members of the club.
In the coming weeks, either the new logo or the 'B' first will appear on the caps.
Later, other apparel can be obtained in the HCAW-shop at the playing site.
The former logo (left) showed the club's name in front of a baseball inside a glove.
Underneath was the name of sponsor Mr. Cocker and from behind the glove, a cocker spaniel appeared, which was part of the Mr. Cocker Lunchroom-logo.
Through the years, this logo got some minor adjustments, but has remained almost the same for 30 years.
