KISSIMMEE, Florida (USA) -
The first No-Hitter is in the books and it was registered on only the eighth day of Spring Training.
At Osceola County Stadium, the Spring Training-home of the Houston Astros, nine pitchers of the Atlanta Braves held the Astros hitless in 10 innings today (Sunday, March 8), then the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Cody Martin started for the Braves and threw the first two innings.
Hereafter, Jim Johnson, Josh Outman, Brandon Cunniff, Ian Thomas, Mauricio Cabrera, Lucas Sims, Justin Jackson and Jairo Heredia all pitched one inning, but held the No-Hitter intact.
The pitchers didn't gave up a basehit, but they also combined on nine walks, while also striking out nine batters.
Atlanta had taken an 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Houston then took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The bases got loaded thanks to two walks and a hit batter.
The tying run was then scored on a force play-grounder by Ronald Torreyes and the go-ahead run then folowed on a grounder by Nolan Fontana.
In the eighth inning, the Braves, who collected seven hits, came alongside on a sacrifice fly by Todd Cunningham, but the 2-2 score also was to be the final score.
Starting pitcher Martin is a non-roster invitee on the Braves-roster.
The final three pitchers, Sims, Jackson and Heredia, were brought from minor league-camp as extra pitchers for today's game.
