UVV wins two exhibition games in the weekend
Nederlands
EINDHOVEN (Neth.) -
UVV has played two exhibition games last weekend, which were both victorious.
Initially, UVV was scheduled to have a practice camp in Belgium at the site of Borgerhout Squirrels in Borgerhout, near Antwerp.
There, UVV was to play two games against the hosting club.
However, the playing field of Borgerhout was not playable yet.
PSV, in nearby Dutch city Eindhoven, was approached about the availability of their complex and they reacted positive.
And so, UVV transfered to Eindhoven and played there against Borgerhout on Saturday.
As the Belgian squad wanted to play one instead of two games, due to a lack of pitching, UVV played against PSV on Sunday.
On Saturday, UVV won 9-5 against the Belgian team, then a 14-3 victory followed the next day in an 8-inning game vs. PSV.
Coming weekend, UVV plays two games against HCAW.
As UVV's field is not ready yet, both games will be played at the site of HCAW in Bussum, starting at 3 PM.

Two runs were added in the second inning.
Jordan Illis led off with a double and scored when Brennan Nijhof followed with a single.
After Norbert Jongerius reached on an error, Dennis Ribbens grounded into a double play, but then rookie Julian Rip followed with an RBI-single that made it 3-0.
Borgerhout got a run back off of starter Jim Ploeger in the third inning.
Ploeger had struckout four batters in the first two innings, but in this at bat, he had to allow for Belgian batters to reach base.
Steven De Lannoy led off with a single and Sam Buelens reached on an error with one out.
The bases got loaded when Nicky Cachard walked.
After Ploeger registered his fifth strikout, he issued another walk to Mitch Van Dercruyssen, but the Squirrels left the bases loaded when a grounder ended the inning.
UVV was held scoreless in the fourth and fifth inning, despite having runners in scoring position.
After stranding a runner on second base in the fourth, UVV had the bases loaded with two outs in the fifth.
Julian Rip led off with a walk, as did Thomas Smits with one out.
The third walk in the inning was issued with two outs to Omar Williams, but then a grounder followed.
UVV added two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
With one out, Brennan Nijhof walked and scored when Norbert Jongerius followed with a triple.
After Dennis Ribbens had walked, the next run was scored on another RBI-single by rookie Julian Rip, who left a fine impression today.
He is the son of Onno Rip, who himself also played in the Dutch big league in the eighties for Kinheim and HCAW.
UVV increased its lead to 9-1 thanks to a 4-run rally in the seventh inning in which the first five batters reached safely.
The bases got loaded when Gilmer Lampe led off with a walk, Omar Williams followed with a single and Mike Bazuin also walked.
Hereafter, Jordan Illis also walked to bring in a run.
Moments later, the bases were cleared when Brennan Nijhof connected for a 3-run double.
Borgerhout narrowed the deficit to 9-5 by scoring four runs in the eighth inning off of Gilian Lith.
He had taken over the pitching in the sixth and struckout the first six batters he faced.
But in the eighth, Lith encountered some problems.
He hit lead-off hitter Sam Buelens with a pitch, then walked Nicky Cachard.
After an infield-fly accounted for the first out, the bases got loaded when Mitch Van Dercruyssen also walked.
Two runs were then scored on a double by Timen Van Geel.
The next two were added while batter Yannick Gontier was eliminated at first base after a passed ball followed a strikeout.
In the ninth inning, Borgerhout again got the bases loaded with one out.
Next, Kenny Celie lined out into leftfield and Lith ended the game in style with his ninth strikeouts in the four innings he pitched to earn a save.
UVV got some fine pitching today, as starter Jim Ploeger also struckout nine batter in the first five innings.
Both Ploeger and Lith gave up only two basehits.
UVV collected eleven basehits, but also reached base eleven times via a walk.

In the inning, Norbert Jongerius led off with a single and scored on a double by Gilmer Lampe.
With one out, Jordan Illis walked, then a double-steal situation enabled Lampe to score.
Mike Bazuin followed with an RBI-single, who then advanced to third base on a double by Brennan Nijhof.
Thomas Smits then added a 2-run single that lifted the lead to 10-2.
UVV also was productive in the seventh inning, scoring three more runs.
With one out and Nijhof (fielder's choice) on first base, Jamie Verheyleweghen walked, which led to a pitching change.
With two outs, Joris van Ballegooy drove the ball into deep rightfield.
The ball was caught, but he ended up with a 2-run sacrifice fly.
Dennis Ribbens then walked and later scored another run thanks to a single by Jongerius.
UVV scored its last run in the eighth when Lampe singled and scored on an error.
PSV got one run left in the seventh.
In that inning, Mees Cremer became the new pitcher for UVV.
The rookie is a product of the youth program of UVV and did fine this afternoon.
He walked the first batter he faced (who would score), but then retired the next five batters in a row.
