Neptunus wins big in Hoofddorp
Nederlands
HOOFDDORP (Neth.) - Curaçao Neptunus won 15-2 in seven innings on Saturday (May 9) vs. Vaessen Pioniers, which was the league-leader before the start of the current 3-game series.

Neptunus collected 14 basehits off of seven pitchers.

The two runs by Pioniers were scored via a 2-run homerun by Daniel Fernandes.

The 15 runs Pioniers gave up today were the most scored against the team since it gave up 17 runs on May 20, 2006 when it was shutout 17-0 by Kinheim.

(May 9)

Neptunus struck with ten runs in the first two innings and led 14-0 in the fifth inning. After completion of that at bat, Pioniers already had used five different pitchers.

In the first at bat, Neptunus scored three runs. With runners on first and second base, a single by Raily Legito produced the first run, then a throwing error on a force play-grounder by Gianison Boekhoudt led to the next two runs.

A 7-run rally on six hits followed in the second inning. The rally was opened with a 2-run double by Christian Diaz. After Benjamin Dille singled, Dennis Buring took over for starter Lars Huijer. He saw Raily Legito reach on a fielder's choice, which also led to a run. Next, then bases got loaded via singles by Gianison Boekhoudt and Dwayne Kemp. A runscoring grounder by Rien Vernooij and 2-run double by Shurman Marlin lifted the lead to with three more runs, then an error made it a 10-0 score.

Three runs were added in the fourth inning off of new pitcher Taylor Clemensia. A double by Urving Kemp and grounder by Shaldimar Daantji brought in the first two runs. Then a sacrifice fly off of new pitcher Swen Huijer made it 13-0.

In the fifth inning, the fourteenth run was scored, thanks to a double by Rien Vernooij. The 15th run was added in the seventh off of Kevin Weijgertse, who is a first baseman and was today's designated hitter of Pioniers. The run was scored by Adrian Anthony, who singled, moved on a double by Shurman Marlin and scored on a sac-fly Urving Kemp.

Neptunus-starter Kenny Van Den Branden gave up seven hits in six innings to Pioniers, which stranded seven runners. The home team then scored its lone two runs in the seventh inning off of reliever Floris Timmer. With one out, Max Draijer doubled, then scored when former Neptunian Daniel Fernandes homered.
