Amsterdam appeared to open the score quickly in the first at bat off of veteran Elton Koeiman.
Roelie Henrique led off with a walk, then advanced into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Michael Duursma.
Henrique then stole third base successfully, beating the throw from catcher Glenn Bakker.
However, he then overran third base base, got into a rundown and was eliminated 5-2-6-5.
A grounder ended the inning.
In the bottom of the first inning, Pioniers stranded a runner on third base off of Dennis Burgersdijk.
With two outs, Danny Rombley singled.
He then stole second base and advanced on a throwing error, but a pop-fly ended the at bat.
In the top of the second inning, Kenny Berkenbosch led off with a single.
Next batter Remco Draijer then hit the ball through the middle.
Short stop Max Draijer was off-ballance, but was able to field the ball.
His only option was an attempt to force out Berkenbosch at second base, but was not successful.
With that, Draijer was credited with an infield-hit by the Official Scorers instead of a fielder's choice, who applied Rule 10.05(a)(6).
That Rule states that ''The official scorer shall credit a batter with a base hit when: a fielder unsuccessfully attempts to put out a preceding runner and, in the official scorer’s judgment, the batter-runner would not have been put out at first base by ordinary effort''.
However, with runners on first and second base and no outs, Amsterdam was unable to move the two hereafter, as three outs followed.
In the top of the third inning, Amsterdam got another scoring opportunity.
With one out, Roelie Henrique and Michael Duursma singled, then the first moved on a flyout.
With runners on first and third base, the inning ended when short stop Max Draijer made a nice play on a hard grounder by Kenny Berkenbosch.
In the fourth, both teams left a runner on third base.
For Pirates, Remco Draijer led off with a single, moved on a flyout and a wild pitch, but was left behind.
For Pioniers, Mark-Jan Moorman doubled down the leftfield-line and moved on a grounder, but also stranded.
The scoring then began from the fifth inning on.
In the top of the fifth, Linoy Croes led off with a walk, then moved to third base when Roelie Henrique followed with a single.
A bunt-single by Michael Duursma loaded the bases.
Next, Croes scored on a sacrifice fly by Nick Urbanus, then the Pioniers-defense ended the inning with a double play.
After Pioniers left two runners in the bottom of the fifth, Amsterdam scored twice in the sixth.
First, Remco Draijer led off with a homerun.
Moments later, with one out, Patrick Bok singled and that led to a pitching change.
Sedley Karel took over for Koeiman, but he gave up a bunt-single to Rashid Gerard, then loaded the bases by walking Linoy Croes.
A force out at home followed on a grounder by Roelie Henrique, but a walk for Michael Duursma then gave Amsterdam an additional run.
The bases were left behind loaded when a flyout ended the inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, Pioniers got one run back.
With one out, Mark-Jan Moorman walked.
Hereafter, Kevin Dirksen doubled into rightfield.
While the ball was coming back to the infield, Moorman was waved home and appeared to be eliminated, however, the ball went by catcher Bas Nooij, resulting in a run.
Amsterdam added two runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Kenny Berkenbosch led off with a single and stole second base.
He then moved to third base after third baseman Vince Rooi made a great play on a grounder by Remco Draijer.
With Berkenbosch on third base, a pitching change followed.
Karel was relieved by closer Bayron Cornelisse, who made a rare early entrance in the game.
His first two deliveries ended up becoming runs.
He first enabled Berkenbosch to score on a wild pitch, then Bas Nooij homered on his next pitch to make it a 5-1 score.
This was the earliest moment in a game this season that Cornelisse took the mound.
In his previous 19 appearances, he came on in relief four times in the eighth.
The last time that Cornelisse entered a regular season-game in the seventh inning was on June 8 of last year, when he started the bottom of the seventh inning in a 2-1 loss at HCAW in a game that was interrupted by a sun-delay and lasted only seven innings.
On May 17 last year, Cornelisse started the top of the seventh inning vs. Mampaey The Hawks in a 14-4 win in a 7-inning mercy-rule game.
While the above two appearances also came in the seventh inning, they in reality came in the final inning of a 7-inning game, which could be compared to the ninth of a 9-inning game.
The last time that Cornelisse entered a regular season 9-inning game this early was on May 12, 2013, when he came on in the top of the seventh with two outs in a game vs. Mampaey The Hawks.
Pioniers lost that game 3-1.
The runs were costly for Pioniers, as it scored two of its own in the home of the seventh.
Max Draijer led off with a double, then Daniel Fernandes drove the ball into deep leftfield.
Almost everyone thought the ball might leave the field, but instead it hit the padding in leftfield and so Fernandes had to race to end up with an RBI-double.
That led to the departure of Burgersdijk, who was relieved by Tom de Blok.
With one out, he uncorked a wild pitch that brought Fernandes to third base and he then scored on a sacrifice fly by Danny Rombley.
Hereafter, Vince Rooi singled and that brough Acting Head Coach Ronald Jaarsma again to the mound.
He brought in lefthander Robin Schel to face lefthanded hitting Mark-Jan Moorman.
With runners on first and third base, Moorman grounded the ball to deep short, but there, veteran short stop Michael Duursma made a nice play fielding and eliminating the batter to end the inning.
Amsterdam added an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning.
Kenny Berkenbosch led off with a double and scored on a following single by Remco Draijer, his fourth basehit in the game.
Hereafter, Cornelisse was relieved by Dennis Buring.
He got a double play-grounder, but then gave up a single to Patrick Bok and hit Jesse Aussems with a pitch, but they were left behind.
Daan Hendrix had come on in relief for Amsterdam in the eighth, then retired the side.
In the ninth, with one out, he gave up a single to Daniel Fernandes.
Hereafter, Dirk van 't Klooster popped up into leftfield.'
With two outs, Fernandes stole second base, then Danny Rombley walked.
That brought powerhitter Vince Rooi to the plate, representing the tying run.
But he grounded to short stop Michael Duursma, ending the game.
