(June 11)

All four runs score by The Hawks tonight were unearned, but two of them gave the team the lead through the sixth inning. Nevertheless, the team from Dordrecht ended up empty-handed again.

In the first at bat, facing lefthander Ricardo Hernandez Sanchez, The Hawks opened the score. With one out, Stephen Henson singled, then moved to third base when an error was made on a grounder by Berend Ruben. Henson scored when Julian Goins followed with a single, but the team also left two runners behind.

In the fourth inning, The Hawks doubled its lead, but two runners also were eliminated at the plate. Steven Wharwood and Amir Daou led off with singles, then moved when Gino Hersilia reached on an error with one out. Next, Wharwood was forced out at the plate on a grounder by Odion Gouverneur, but then Stephen Henson singled to give The Hawks a 2-0 lead. However, Hersilia, who also tried to score, was thrown out at the plate, ending the inning and leaving two runners behind.

In the sixth inning, The Hawks left another runner in scoring position. Steven Wharwood led off with a single, then Enoch Deaton entered the game as pinch-hitter and singled in his first big league at bat. But the two were left behind, as a strikeout and groudout followed.

Quinn Tramm started for The Hawks and gave up only two hits in the first five innings. He retired the side in the first inning, then gave up a lead-off single to Quintin De Cuba in the second, but then was supported with a double play. In the third inning, Kevin Weijgertse led off with a single for Pioniers, moved on a sac-bunt and grounder, but stranded at third base. Tramm retired the side again in the fourth. The righthander hit Mark-Jan Moorman with a pitch in the fifth, but then The Hawks turned another double play.

Trailing 2-0, Pioniers struck with five runs with two outs in the sixth inning and that proved to be decisive. A groundout and strikeout gave Tramm two quick outs, but then he hit next batter Daniel Fernandes with a pitch. Hereafter, Dirk van 't Klooster singled to register his 1200th career basehit. With that, he moved Fernandes to second base and started the rally, as Taylor Clemensia followed with an RBI-single. A walk for Quintin de Cuba then loaded the bases and Pioniers took a 3-2 lead when Mark-Jan Moorman delivered a 2-run double. A following single by Kevin Dirksen brought in two more runs and lifted the lead to 5-2 in favor of Pioniers.

But The Hawks almost erased its deficit again, however, it ended up just short. In the eighth inning, Lejeune Francisca led off with a walk, which led to a pitching change. Sedley Karel took over for Hernandez, who had thrown 127 pitches, but now left the mound with his team leading. With one out, Karel hit Amir Daou, but then Pioniers turned an inning-ending double play.

In the top of the ninth, The Hawks added two unearned runs off of closer Bayron Cornelisse. Gino Hersilia led off with a walk and Odion Gouverneur reached on an error, then the two advanced on a wild pitch. With one out, Hersilia scored on a grounder by Berend Ruben, then another run was added when Julian Goins also reached on an error. But a grounder then ended the inning and the game.
