Kinheim rallies in 5th inning to turn deficit into win vs. UVV
Nederlands
HAARLEM (Neth.) - Corendon Kinheim trailed 3-1 vs. UVV on Sunday (July 12), then rallied for seven runs in the fifth inning to win 11-4.

Bryan Engelhardt accounted for the highlight in the fifth inning by hitting a grand slam homerun.

This was the sixth grand slam hit in the big league this season, but the first by a Kinheim-player. L&D Amsterdam Pirates has three, the other two were hit by Vaessen Pioniers.

With the win, Kinheim almost secured a spot in the Play-Offs. When the season resumes on July 30, a Kinheim-win or UVV-loss means the Haarlem-squad reaches the championship round.

(July 12)

Kinheim-starter Glenn Wassink retired the first eight batters he faced, but then gave up three runs in the third at bat. With two outs, he gave up a double to Jordan Illis, who then scored the first run on a following single by Joris van Ballegooy. A single by Jamie Verheyleweghen moved Van Ballegooy to second base and he scored the next run when Gilmer Lampe also singled. With runners on first and third base, Lampe stole second base, then Verheyleweghen took off to steal home and make it a 3-0 score.

UVV-starter Jurjen van Zijl gave up a lead-off single in the second inning to Dashenko Ricardo, but then was supported with a double play. Van Zijl retired nine of the first ten batters he faced. With one out in the fourth, the righthander gave up a homerun to Mervin Gario. In the next at bat, Kinheim struck with seven runs to turn the game its way.

In the productive at bat, the UVV-defense committed two errors, resulting in all seven runs being unearned. Jeffrey Arends and Dudley Leonora led off the fifth with singles, then the bases got loaded when an error was made on a sacrifice bunt by Sven van de Sanden. A throwing error followed on a force play-grounder by Niels van Weert, which led to two runs and tied the score at 3-3. Hereafter, Van de Sanden was successfully forced out on a grounder by Jochem Koedijk, but the bases were then re-loaded when Kevin Moesquit singled. Kinheim then took a 4-3 lead when Mervin Gario also singled. Next batter Bryan Engelhardt then connected well on a 1-2 pitch and the saw the ball he hit fly over the rightfield-fence for a grand slam homerun! And that not only gave Kinheim an 8-3 lead, it also resulted in a pitching change.

It was the sixth homerun this season for Engelhardt, who shares the league-lead with Gianison Boekhoudt, who also homered today for Curaçao Neptunus.

UVV got one run back in the seventh inning. Tony Enos led off with a single, moved on a single by Brennan Nijhof and a double play-grounder by Norbert Jongerius, then scored on single by Sam van Dijck.

In the bottom of the seventh, Kinheim scored another run off of new pitcher Jerremyh Angela. With two outs, Mervin Gario singled and Bryan Engelhardt was hit by a pitch. Gario then scored his league-leading 38th run when Dashenko Ricardo singled, which was his league-leading 61st basehit.

Kinheim scored two more runs in the eighth inning off of Oscar Meuris. Pinch-hitter Thomas Bos walked and pinch-hitter Dexter de Weert singled, then the bases got loaded when Niels van Weert also walked. A sacrifice fly by Jochem Koedijk and force play-grounder by Kevin Moesquit enabled the two pinch-hitters to score.

After giving up the three runs in the third inning, Glenn Wassink retired the side in the next three innings. He then gave up UVV's fourth run in the seventh and was relieved by Nick Veltkamp in the eighth. The lefthander gave up three hits in the two innings he pitched, but UVV was unable to score more runs.
