Kevin Heijstek started for Amsterdam and gave up only four hits in seven innings.
Nevertheless, the Amsterdam-squad faced a minimal deficit after five complete innings.
UVV opened the score in the first inning.
Joris van Ballegooy led off with a walk, then moved to third base on a single by Gilmer Lampe and scored when Dennis De Quint reached on an error.
Hereafer, UVV had runners on first and second base and no outs, but failed to add more runs.
A foul-out followed, then Lampe was caught stealing and a strikeout ended the inning.
In the next six innings, Heijstek retired the side four times.
In the third inning, UVV got another chance of adding more runs.
Dennis Ribbens led off with a single and Joris van Ballegooy followed with a double.
This time, a flyout and two strikeouts followed, leaving two runners in scoring position.
In the sixth, now with the score tied at 1-1, UVV again got two baserunners, this time with two outs, but they also stranded.
Amsterdam got three scoring opportunities to erase the early deficit, but then stranded six runners.
In the second inning, with one out, Rashid Gerard and Jesse Aussems walked, but a strikeout and force out followed.
In the third, Amsterdam got the bases loaded with two outs, but then the inning ended with a strikeout.
In the top of the fourth inning, Jesse Aussems and Koen Nooij singled for Pirates.
A very rare situation the followed with Roelie Henrique being the batter, as UVV appealed that he was using an illegal bat.
After a discussion, this was confirmed by the umpires and according to rule 6.06(d), Henrique was ruled out and ejected from the game.
A following line drive hit by Michael Duursma then ended in an inning-ending double play.
In the top of the sixth inning, Amsterdam was able to score the tying run off of starter Jim Ploeger.
Remco Draijer led off with a walk and then moved to third base when an error followed a bunt-single by Rashid Gerard.
The bases got loaded when Jesse Aussems walked and so, Amsterdam got another opportunity to take the lead.
But only one run was scored and that happened when Koen Nooij grounded into a double play.
In the seventh inning, Amsterdam broke the 1-1 tie and from that moment on took charge of the game.
Michael Duursma led off with a double, moved on a sacrifice bunt by Nick Urbanus and scored on a double by Kenny Berkenbosch to give Amsterdam a 2-1 lead.
In the top of the ninth inning, Amsterdam rallied for three (unearned) runs with two outs off of reliever Jerremyh Angela.
Nick Urbanus and Kenny Berkenbosch then walked.
Moments later, the inning could have been over, as Urbanus was picked off on second base and got into a rundown, but that ended in an error, enabling him to reach third base.
Shortly thereafter, Berkenbosch stole second base and Urbanus took off to steal home.
Bas Nooij and Remco Draijer followed with runscoring singles to lift the lead to 5-1.
Daan Hendrix, who had relieved Heijstek in the eighth, then retired the side in the bottom of the ninth, just as he had done in the previous at bat, and earned his fourth save of the season.
