Arshwin Asjes was the starting pitcher this afternoon for Kinheim.
Normally, Asjes is the closer in the pitching staff, but the team lost two of its starting pitchers to injuries.
On May 3, Glenn Wassink was hit on his right elbow by a comebacker, then on May 7, Tom Stuifbergen left the mound with a knee-injury.
To make things worse, Kinheim also lost third baseman Mervin Gario last Saturday with a hamstring-injury and today, centerfielder Jasper Keijzer left the game injured in the first inning.
All will be sidelined for awhile.
Asjes didn't had a successful outing today, as he walked six batters and hit two in 3-plus innings, giving up three hits and four earned runs.
In the top of the first inning, he got two quick outs, then gave up singles to Tony Enos and Dennis De Quint, which put runners on first and third base.
De Quint hit his single in short centerfield, where Jasper Keijzer dove the ball.
The centerfielder came close catching the ball, but it ended up on the grass.
Moments later, it became clear that Keijzer had sustained an injury and was replaced.
X-rays in the hospital revealed a fracture in a knuckle of one of his fingers.
After a 4-minute delay, the game resumed, a grounder followed and UVV stranded two runners.
In the bottom of the first, Kinheim got a chance to open the score.
Kevin Moesquit led off with a single and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Niels van Weert.
With two outs, Kinheim got the bases loaded when Jeffrey Arends and Bryan Engelhardt walked.
But a grounder followed, leaving the bases loaded and that would happen three more times for Kinheim.
UVV opened the score in the third inning.
With two outs, Gilmer Lampe doubled down the rightfield-line, then stole third base.
The bases got loaded when Tony Enos walked and Dennis De Quint was hit by a pitch.
Next, Arshwin Asjes walked Omar Williams, resulting in an automatic run.
A foul pop-up ended the inning, leaving the bases loaded, but UVV had taken an 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third inning, Kinheim got the bases loaded again.
With two outs, UVV-starter Kevin Noordzij walked Dashenko Ricardo, Jeffrey Arends and Bryan Engelhardt.
Kinheim then left three runners again, when Dudley Leonora's fly was caught by rightfielder Norbert Jongerius.
And more nice outfield-catches would follow.
In the fourth inning, UVV rallied for three runs to take more distance.
Jordan Illis, Thomas Smits and Dennis Ribbens all walked, then Asjes hit Joris van Ballegooy on his helmet, which brought in a run.
Van Ballegooy appeared a little shaken after the hit to his helmet, but was able to continue the game.
It also led to pitching change, as Asjes was relieved by David Bergman, who also is the probable starter for coming Sunday's game.
He was greeted with a runscoring single by Gilmer Lampe that made it 3-0.
A flyout followed and then, with the bases still loaded, things heated up a little, as Kinheim-catcher Dashenko Ricardo exchanged some words with the UVV dug-out.
It was stated that the signs of Ricardo were 'stolen', but the umpires quickly restored order and the game continued.
Moments later, Dennis De Quint hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Lampe and made it 4-0.
Another flyout followed and this time, UVV stranded three runners.
In the next five innings, UVV was held scoreless.
Kinheim turned a double play in the fifth inning and got a nice catch from leftfielder Bryan Engelhardt that ended the sixth inning with runners on first and third base.
From its fourth inning on, Kinheim got several opportunities to do something back, but the UVV-defense and especially the three outfielders prevented that.
In the bottom of the fourth, with one out, Sven van der Sanden singled and Jochem Koedijk walked.
Next, Kevin Moesquit lined the ball into rightfield, where it appeared to drop in for a runscoring hit, but rightfielder Norbert Jongerius made a nice running catch, which held the runners on first and second base.
A single by Niels van Weert then loaded the bases.
Hereafter, it was centerfielder Gilmer Lampe who made a great catch on a line drive by Dashenko Ricardo to end the inning, meaning Kinheim left the bases loaded for the third time.
In the fifth, Kevin Noordzij walked his seventh batter.
After a flyout to leftfielder Jordan Illis, Noordzij was relieved, having thrown more than 100 pitches.
Claudio Bavera took over and got a double play-grounder to end the inning.
The lefthanded Venezuelan with Italian passport then saw his defense turn another double play in the sixth with runners on first and second base.
Bavera retired the side in the seventh, but then Kinheim got another chance to score runs in its eighth at bat.
With one out, Dudley Leonora singled and Calvin Martinus walked, which led to a pitching change.
Jurjen van Zijl took over, but he walked Sven van der Sanden to load the bases, then gave up a runscoring single to Jochem Koedijk.
Van Zijl followed with a strikeout, then Jongerius made another catch in rightfield to end the inning and so Kinheim left the bases loaded for the fourth time.
In the bottom of the ninth, Van Zijl began with a strikeout, but then it was centerfielder Lampe again who made two nice catches to end the game in style.
