The Hawks comes from behind to win vs. DSS
Nederlands
HAARLEM (Neth.) - DSS failed to hold onto a 3-0 lead on Thursday-evening (June 18) vs. Mampaey The Hawks, which rallied for four runs in the sixth inning.

The team from Dordrecht scored its four runs with two outs on five hits, including a 2-run double by Amir Daou.

The Hawks collected 10 hits, including three by Brian Raap.

For The Hawks, this was its first victory of the season in a night-game.

(June 18)

Jorn van Ingen started for DSS, while he initially was announced as the starting pitcher for Saturday's game. Van Ingen was moved to tonight, as Rik Geestman, who was announced as starter for tonight's game, was bothered with a leg-injury. With that, he was removed from the rotation. Van Ingen moved to tonight and Mike Groen takes his spot on Saturday.

In the first inning, Stephen Henson doubled for The Hawks with one out off of Van Ingen. But the inning ended when Henson was picked off second base by catcher Sven Jongejans.

DSS scored twice in its first at bat off of starter Quinn Tramm. Lead-off hitter Mark Smit struckout, but reached on a passed ball, then advanced on a grounder by Sven Jongejans. Mitchell Koot then walked and after Ryan Miner also struckout, the bases got loaded when Tino van Erk walked. The inning then ended when a pop-fly in the infield turned into an error, an out and two runs. With the bases loaded, Levine Gabriëls popped up towards the mound. There, pitcher Tramm, 3rd baseman Gino Hersilia and 1st baseman Gregory Trinidad all went after the ball. The latter missed the ball and it dropped on the ground. As there were two outs, all runners of course had took off from their respective bases. Smit and Koot both scored, while Van Erk advanced to second base. In the meantime, when the ball was dropped, batter Gabriëls started to run towards first base. Hersilia picked up the ball, but couldn't eliminate Gabriëls at first base, as there was no one there. Instead, he threw the ball towards second base, where Van Erk had overran the base and was tagged out to end the inning. However, as the two runs were scored before the third out was made, they both counted.

After The Hawks left two runners in the top of the second inning, DSS got close to scoring another run in its second at bat. With one out, Lex Leijenaar walked, moved on a grounder, then tried to score on a single by Mark Smit, but was eliminated at the plate.

In the bottom of the third inning, DSS again got close to expanding its lead. With two outs, the bases got loaded when Ryan Miner and Tino van Erk both singled and Levine Gabriëls walked, but the three were left behind when a grounder followed.

The Hawks stranded a runner on second base in the fourth, but this time DSS succeeded in adding a run moments later. In the bottom of the fourth, Lex Leijenaar led off with a walk, moved on a sac-bunt by Joffrey Heus and a wild pitch, then scored on a 2-out single by Sven Jongejans. Hereafter, starting pitcher Quinn Tramm was relieved by Michel Offerman, who went on to become the winning pitcher.

In the top of the fifth, DSS turned a double play and so The Hawks trailed 3-0 in the top of the sixth at bat. But then, the team from Dordrecht rallied for four runs with two outs! Berend Ruben and Julian Goins singled, then both scored when Amir Daou followed with a double to narrow the deficit to 3-2. Next, Steven Wharwood also singled to bring in the tying run. When next batter Brian Raap also singled, it led to a pitching change. Mark van Deursen took over, but he first walked Gregory Trinidad that loaded the bases, then also walked Gino Hersilia, which gave The Hawks a 4-3 lead. A grounder ended the at bat, but The Hawks had turned the game its way.

In the remaining three innings, The Hawks reached base only one more time. On the other hand, DSS reached base more, but was unable to re-take the lead. In the eighth, Gabriëls was hit by a pitch with one out, but then The Hawks turned a double play.

In the bottom of the ninth, DSS got close to tying the score. Lex Leijenaar led off with a single off of new pitcher Kevin van Veen, then Joffrey Heus walked. Hereafter, Van Veen was replaced by José Moreno. A double steal then failed, as Koen Halderman, who pinch ran for Leijenaar, was caught stealing at third base. A grounder and flyout followed, stranding Heus at third base to end the game.
