Dennis Burgersdijk started tonight for Amsterdam.
In his first start of the season, the righthander gave up a 2-out double in the first inning and a 2-out single in the second at bat, but held HCAW scoreless.
In its first two at bats, Amsterdam Pirates got a chance to open the score off of Sander Helmendach, but instead stranded five runners.
In the opening at bat, Amsterdam got its first two batters on base when Roelie Henrique led off with a bunt-single and Nick Urbanus was hit by a pitch.
With one out, Remco Draijer singled.
Henrique tried to score, but was eliminated at the plate.
Urbanus and Draijer advanced on the throw to second and third base, then were left behind.
In the second inning, Amsterdam got the bases loaded with one out.
Bas Nooij walked and Jorin van Amstel singled, then everyone was safe on a force play-grounder by Linoy Croes.
However, the three runners stranded when a strikeout and flyout followed.
In the top of the third inning, it was HCAW that left three runners behind, but also took an 1-0 lead.
After Burgersdijk had struckout the first two batters, he walked Roy Seltenrijch and Emersson Paula and gave up a runscoring single to Rossini Frolijk.
The bases got loaded when Kevin Nieveld also walked, but he was then forced out, ending the inning.
After Amsterdam stranded another runner in scoring position in its third at bat, HCAW added a run in the fourth inning.
Rowan van Hoek and Raoell Kortstam led off singles, but the first was forced out on third base on a bunt by Rikkert Kempen.
A following single by Peter van Doesburg then accounted for the second run.
While the throw from the outfield went to the plate, Van Doesburg tried to advanced, but was then eliminated at second base.
A grounder ended the at bat, with Kempen stranding at third base.
Moments later, Amsterdam rallied for three runs to take charge of the game.
With two outs and Linoy Croes (fielder's choice) at first base, Roelie Henrique walked.
The two then scored on a following double by Nick Urbanus to make it a 2-2 tie.
Kenny Berkenbosch followed with a ground-rule double that gave Pirates a 3-2 lead.
From the fifth inning on, Amsterdam took more distance, while the Pirates-pitching held HCAW scoreless.
In the bottom of the fifth, Koen Nooij led off with a walk and Michael Duursma was hit by a pitch.
Hereafter, Steven van Groningen took over for Helmendach.
He got a force out and flyout, but then gave up a runscoring single to Linoy Croes that made it 4-2.
In the top of the sixth inning, Burgersdijk hit lead-off hitter Jarreau Martina, who then advanced on a wild pitch.
With one out, Robin Schel took over the pitching and ended the at bat.
Amsterdam scored another run in its sixth.
Nick Urbanus led off with a walk, reached second base when a caught stealing went errant and scored on a sac-fly by Remco Draijer.
The home team scored its sixth run in the seventh at bat.
New pitcher Tim Niekerk walked Michael Duursma, Bas Nooij and Jorin van Amstel, then was relieved by Tony Kreisel.
With one out, he saw the run being scored on a sac-fly by Roelie Henrique.
HCAW reached base only two more times in its final three at bats.
In the seventh, Peter van Doesburg led off with a walk, but hereafter, Robin Schel struckout the next three batters.
The lefthander then walked a batter with one out in the eighth, but was supported with a double play moments later.
In the ninth, Tom de Blok closed the game for Pirates.
The righthander retired the side and ended the game with two strikeouts.
