UVV wins protest; game vs. The Hawks partially to be replayed
Nederlands
NIEUWEGEIN (Neth.) - On Thursday (June 18), the Royal Dutch Baseball and Softball Association announced that its Committee for Protests has awarded the protest filed by UVV in its game against Mampaey The Hawks on May 28. As a result, the game will have to be replayed from the top of the fourth inning.

On Thursday, May 28, UVV filed a protest in the home game against The Hawks, which was the opener of a 3-game series.
With The Hawks leading 3-0 and one out in the top of the fourth inning, Kilian Jansen singled for The Hawks. After he had reached base, UVV filed a protest, stating that the batter had used an illegal bat. It was confirmed that the bat was illegal, but no actions were taken. According to Rule 6.06(d2), the batter (Jansen) should have been ruled out and should have been ejected. Instead, Jansen remained in the game, running on first base. He later stole second base and with two outs, he moved to third on a single by Odion Gouverneur, who also stole second base moments later. The two runners later scored on a following single to lift the lead to 5-0.

After UVV had scored twice in the bottom of the fourth, The Hawks added four runs in the fifth to increase the lead to 9-2. UVV then rallied for six runs in the bottom fifth and added a run in the eighth to come alongside, 9-9. Due to the curfew-rule, the game ended after eight complete innings with a 9-9 score.

As the protest has been awarded, the game now will have to be replayed from the top of the fourth inning with two outs, no baserunners and The Hawks leading 3-0. And of course, Jansen cannot play again in this game, as he will be ruled out (second out) and be ejected from the game for using the illegal bat.

The replaying of the game is scheduled for Tuesday-evening, June 30, starting at 7:30 PM at the site of UVV in Vleuten.

This ruling also means that the first half of the regular season will last two more weeks. Last Tuesday, L&D Amsterdam Pirates and Curaçao Neptunus met in a make-up game, which then was the last game to be played in the first half. But that will now officially end on June 30.

Last Saturday, UVV also appealed that a batter was using an illegal bat, this time in its home game against Amsterdam Pirates. This also was confirmed, but this time, batter Roelie Henrique was ruled out and ejected from the game.
