The Hawks opened the score with two runs in the first inning off of rookie Mike Groen, who took the spot in the rotation for Jorn van Ingen.
The latter was moved to the opener on Thursday-evening, when scheduled starter Rik Geestman was scrubbed due to an injury.
In the opening at bat, Odion Gouverneur led off with a single for the visitors, then stole second base and scored when a fly into the outfield by Brian Raap ended in an error.
Raap reached second base on his hit, then moved on a grounder and scored on a passed ball.
The Hawks added a run in the second inning.
Steven Wharwood led off with a single, moved when Gino Hersilia walked, stole third base, then scored on a grounder by Louie-Jay Sienders.
In the following innings, Groen held The Hawks scoreless.
He was supported with a double play in the fourth inning and The Hawks stranded four runners in scoring position through the seventh.
Furthermore, Groen was backed with a comeback by DSS and left the mound with a 7-3 lead for the Haarlem-squad.
The Hawks-starter Evan Simons allowed only one batter to reach base in the first four innings, which was Tino van Erk, who singled with one out in the second inning.
Trailing 3-0, DSS scored twice in the fifth.
Van Erk then led off with a walk and was awarded second base on a balk.
He advanced on a single by Koen Halderman, who was caught stealing moments later.
A grounder by Joffrey Heus enabled Van Erk to score, then back-to-back doubles by Shane Boeree and Mitchel Dautzenberg resulted in the next run to narrow the deficit to 3-2.
DSS struck with five runs in the sixth inning to turn the game its way.
Lex Leijenaar and Mitchell Koot led off with singles, then moved on a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Miner.
To set up a force play, Tino van Erk was walked intentionally to load the bases.
Hereafter, Laurens Oele was brought in to relief Simons.
But he hit next batter Koen Halderman with a pitch that tied the score.
Joffrey Heus followed with a sacrifice squeeze-but that brought in Koot and gave DSS a 4-3 lead.
The bases were re-loaded when Shane Boeree walked, then Mitchel Dautzenberg cleared the bases with a 3-run triple to make it 7-3 in favor of DSS.
However, The Hawks brought back the suspense the final innings.
In the top of the eighth, Max Ploegstra took over the pitching for DSS, but gave up two hits and two runs.
Julian Goins led off with a double, then Gregory Trinidad walked and then bases got loaded when Steven Wharwood singled.
After he struckout the next batter, Ploegstra uncorked a wild pitch that led to a run, as did a following grounder by Louie-Jay Sienders.
But The Hawks then left a runner on third base.
DSS got two more runners in its next two innings, but was unable to add more runs.
In the bottom of the seventh, Ryan Miner walked with two outs, but stranded.
In the bottom of the eighth, DSS had two outs when Shane Boeree singled.
He was replaced by pinch-runner Daan Halderman, who made his big league-debut, but he was then caught stealing to end the at bat.
In the ninth, closer Kevin Geestman became the new pitcher for DSS.
He began with two strikeouts, but then gave up a single by Berend Ruben and hit Julian Goins with a pitch.
Next, an error on a grounder by Gregory Trinidad resulted in a run and narrowed the deficit to only 7-6.
However, a force out at third base ended the game to secure the win for DSS.
