HOOFDDORP (Neth.) -
Vaessen Pioniers and Corendon Kinheim played a 7-inning game this afternoon (Saturday, March 21), which ended in a 2-2 tie.
Pioniers took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, then controlled the game.
However, in the seventh inning, Kinheim was able to come alongside in what would be the last inning of the game.
The two teams meet again on Sunday at the Pim Mulier Stadium in Haarlem.
Pioniers took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning off of starting pitcher Tom Stuifbergen.
Daniel Fernandes reached on an error, then later scored on a single by Dirk van 't Klooster.
The latter then advanced on a single by former Kinheim-player Quintin De Cuba and scored on a grounder by Vince Rooi to make it 2-0.
By the way, in the past, both Van 't Klooster and Rooi also have played for Kinheim.
Hereafter, Pioniers was unable to add more runs off of Stuifbergen and his relievers Arshwin Asjes and Pim Walsma.
In the meantime, the Kinheim-offense was silenced by starter Reggie Bomberg, who threw four good innings, giving up only two hits.
He was then relieved by rookie Taylor Clemensia, who threw a scoreless fifth inning.
But in the sixth, he saw two batters reach base and was replaced by Sedley Karel.
Two errors eventually led to the two runs, making it a 2-2 score.
