Amsterdam Pirates productive in 5th, 6th inning to win vs. HCAW
Nederlands
BUSSUM (Neth.) - L&D Amsterdam Pirates trailed 1-0 after four innings on Sunday (June 21) vs. HCAW, but then had two big rallies. The team scored six runs in the fifth inning and four in the sixth to register a combortable 10-1 victory.

With the win, Pirates remained unbeaten in the second half of the season, while HCAW remained winless in the six games played so far.

(June 21)

Amsterdam Pirates left two runners in the top of the first inning off of Maickel Rietel. In the home half, HCAW opened the score off of Kyle Ward. Raoell Kortstam led off with a single, then advanced to third base when next batter Roy Seltenrijch also singled. The latter was then force out on a grounder by Kevin Nieveld, but that also enabled Kortstam to score. But that was to be the lone run for HCAW in this game.

Rietel added three fine innings after the opening at bat, giving up only two basehits. In the second inning, he gave up an one-out single to Koen Nooij, who was left on second base. The righthander then retired the side in the third inning. He then gave up an one-out single to Remco Draijer in the fourth, but he also stranded on second base.

HCAW left three runners behind in its next three at bats. Max Clarijs led off the second inning with a single and was left on second base. Kevin Nieveld and Jarreau Martina singled with two outs in respectively the third and fourth at bat, but didn't get beyond first base.

Pirates then struck with six runs in the top of the fifth inning. Five runs were unearned, as the HCAW-defense contributed with two errors. Lead-off hitter Rashid Gerard was hit by a pitch, then moved to third base when an error followed on a sacrifice bunt by Linoy Croes. Hereafter, Roelie Henrique grounded into a double play, which brought in the tying run. Next, Michael Duursma also reached on an error, which would have resulted in the third out when the two errors would not have been made. In that case, only one run would have been scored, but now, five more were added, as the at bat continued. With Duursma on first base, Nick Urbanus singled and Kenny Berkenbosch walked to load the bases. A following walk for Remco Draijer brought in the go-ahead run and led to a pitching change. Steven van Groningen took over, but he gave up two 2-run singles to the brothers Bas Nooij and Koen Nooij that lifted the lead to 6-1.

Trailing 6-1, HCAW got the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth inning. Peter van Doesburg led off with a single, Roy Seltenrijch singled with one out and Emersson Paula walked with two outs, but a force out ended the inning.

Amsterdam took more distance by adding four more runs in the sixth at bat. HCAW again made two errors, but despite that, all runs became earned in the end due to following actions. Linoy Croes led off with a single and stole second base, then moved when Roelie Henrique followed with a bunt-single. The bases got loaded when Michael Duursma walked. Nick Urbanus then singled in a run and kept the bases loaded with no outs, resulting in another pitching change. Kaj Timmermans took over and he saw Kenny Berkenbosch hit a runscoring force play-grounder. That ended in a throwing error, which resulted in two more runs. Next, Remco Draijer single was followed by a throwing error, that enabled Berkenbosch to score and make it 10-1.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Amsterdam turned a double play, then Tom de Blok took over for Kyle Ward in the seventh. The righthander retired nine of the ten batters he faced in the three innings he pitched and earned his first save of the season.
