Neptunus again wins big vs. Kinheim
Nederlands
HAARLEM (Neth.) - On Saturday, Curaçao Neptunus shutout Corendon Kinheim 8-0 to end its 12-game winning streak. Today (Sunday, June 21), the Rotterdam-squad again won big, this time winning 11-1 in Haarlem, ending the game in eight innings via the mercy-rule.

Neptunus collected 13 basehits, including three by Gyenuar Lopez and a homerun by Stijn van der Meer.

Neptunus today again played without Raily Legito, who also was out of the line-up on Saturday. The veteran regular third baseman of the Rotterdam-squad flew Friday to Curaçao, where he will be for the next ten days to participate in a project on the Antillian island. This means that he also will miss the next 3-game series against Mampaey The Hawks, as well as the first Tuesday-evening game against L&D Amsterdam Pirates.

(June 21)

Neptunus struck with three runs in the first inning off of starter Glenn Wassink. The first four batters of the Rotterdam-squad all singled to give Neptunus a quick 2-0 lead. The bases got loaded when Stijn van der Meer, Dwayne Kemp and Benjamin Dille all singled. Hereafter, Gianison Boekhoudt delivered the fourth consecutive single, resulting in the first two runs. With one out, a force out followed on a grounder by Christian Diaz, but that also produced the third run in the at bat.

In the bottom of the first inning, Kinheim got one run back off of starter Orlando Yntema. Mervin Gario and Victor Draijer began with singles, then both advanced on a wild pitch. Gario then scored on a sacrifice fly by Bryan Engelhardt, but that also ended in a double play, as Draijer was doubled up on second base. It was to be the lone run for the home team. After the double play, Yntema gave up a single Phil Ortez, but then retired the next nine batters in a row.

Yntema gave up a single in the fourth and fifth inning, but both times, the runner stranded on first base. In the sixth inning, Victor Draijer led off with a double for Kinheim, but he was elimated trying to advance to third base on a passed ball.

Jorian van Acker pitched the eighth inning for Neptunus. He walked a batter with two outs, but he also was left on first base.

After scoring the three runs in the first inning, Neptunus was held scoreless in the next three at bats. In the fourth, Kinheim turned a double play to extend its league-leading total to 42.

Neptunus added its next run in the fifth inning when Stijn van der Meer led off with a homerun, then scored two more in the sixth. Christian Diaz led off with a double and advanced on a wild pitch. Next, Adrian Anthony walked and moved on another wild pitch, which held Diaz at third base. The two runners then scored when Gyenuar Lopez followed with a single to make it 6-1. That also led to a pitching change, as David Bergman took over for Glenn Wassink.

After Bergman's reliever Pim Walsma retired the side in the seventh, Neptunus reached the 10-run difference thanks to a 5-run rally in the eighth inning. Closer Arshwin Asjes became the new pitcher for Kinheim in this at bat. He walked Adrian Anthony with one out, then gave up a single to Gyenuar Lopez. Hereafter, Shaldimar Daantji reached on an infield-hit, which was followed by a throwing error, resulting in a run and runners on second and third base. A grounder by Stijn van der Meer then made it 8-1. A single by Dwayne Kemp followed, but then the game was interrupted by a rain-delay. When the game resumed after 32 minutes, several defensive changes were made by Kinheim. Scott Ronnenbergh took over the pitching, while Dexter de Weert took over behind the plate for Dashenko Ricardo and Sven van de Sanden replaced Bryan Engelhardt in leftfield. Ronnenbergh was greeted with a 2-run triple by Benjamin Dille, who then scored himself on a wild pitch to lift the lead to 11-1.
