Kinheim wins big vs. The Hawks
Nederlands
DORDRECHT (Neth.) - Corendon Kinheim shutout Mampaey The Hawks 9-0 on Saturday-afternoon (May 23). The team collected 13 basehits, including three by Niels van Weert.

Kinheim saw the return today of pitcher Glenn Wassink, who was hit on his rightarm a few weeks ago by a line drive and was sidelined since then. Today, Wassink took the mound with a 9-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh. He struckout four batters, gave up three hits and held The Hawks scoreless in the three innings he pitched to earn a save.

(May 23)

Kinheim struck early with four runs in the first inning off of starter Evan Simons on four hits. Kevin Moesquit led off with a single and Mervin Gario walked. With one out, Dudley Leonora singled down the leftfield-line to bring in the first run, then Jeffrey Arends followed with another RBI-single. A grounder by Dashenko Ricardo then made it 3-0 and an error on a grounder by Sven van der Sanden accounted for the fourth run.

Kinheim was then held scoreless in the next three innings by Simons, who retired eight batters in a row from the first through fourth inning. With one out in the fourth, he gave up a single to Niels van Weert, who stole second base and advanced on a throwing error, but then stranded on third base.

Kinheim added two runs in the fifth. Mervin Gario led off with a double and Bryan Engelhardt walked, then the two advanced on a wild pitch with one out. To create a force play, Jeffrey Arends was walked intentionally, but then Dashenko Ricardo followed with a 2-run single.

Two more runs were scored in the sixth at bat. With one out, Jochem Koedijk walked and Kevin Moesquit singled. With the runners on second and third base and two outs, Bryan Engelhardt delivered a 2-run double to make it an 8-0 score.

The ninth run was then scored in the seventh inning when Dashenko Ricardo led off with a single and scored on a following double by Sven van der Sanden. Hereafter, Michel Offerman took over for Simons and held Kinheim scoreless in the remainder of the game.

Kinheim-starter Nick Veltkamp walked lead-off batter Odion Gouverneur in the first inning, then gave up a single to Stephen Henson, but a flyout and double play followed.

In the third inning, Kinheim turned another double play. The Hawks left runners on second and third base in the fourth inning, but then didn't get into scoring position again off of Veltkamp.

In the seventh inning, Glenn Wassink took over in his first appearance since being hit by a line drive on May 3. He gave up a lead-off single to Tim Roodenburg, then a 2-out single to Odion Gouverneur, but both stranded. Wassink retired the side in the eighth and saw The Hawks leave a runner on third base in the ninth, as a groundout ended the game.
