17-year old rookie Timo van Lingen made his first career start in the big league in what was his second game on the highest level.
The righthander struckout five batters and gave up only one basehit in the six innings he pitched.
Three relievers held on to the minimal 2-1 lead and so, Van Lingen earned his first big league-victory.
DSS left a runner at third base in the first inning, then opened the score in the second at bat.
Seb Visser then led off with a single, moved on two grounders and scored on a single by Lex Leijenaar.
The Hawks came alongside in the bottom of the second inning.
With one out, Julian Goins walked and advanced on a single by Brian Raap.
Both runners got into scoring position after a wild pitch, then the bases were loaded when Wijnand Ruben walked.
A sacrifice fly by Louie-Jay Sienders then brought in the tying run, but two runners stranded, as Van Lingen ended the inning with a strikeout.
DSS got its next scoring opportunity in the fifth inning.
Lex Leijenaar led off with a grounder, ending in a throwing error, which enabled him to reach second base.
With one out, he scored on a double by Mark Smit, who went on to steal third base.
With two outs, Tino van Erk walked, but then the two runners were left behind.
Another big scoring opportunity came in the sixth inning, when DSS got the bases loaded with one out.
Koen Halderman and Joffrey Heus then singled, which brought in new pitcher Jeldwin Orman.
Lex Leijenaar then also singled to load the bases, but the inning ended with a force out at home and a flyout.
After giving up the tying run in the second inning, Van Lingen threw four hitless innings.
He retired six batters in a row, then walked Brian Raap with two outs in the fourth, but he was then caught stealing.
Van Lingen then retired the next four batters, before walking Chris Williams with one out in the sixth.
This time, the rookie starter was supported with a double play.
In the seventh inning, Mark van Deursen took over the pitching.
He began with a walk for Gregory Trinidad, who went on to moved to third base on a sac-bunt and a single.
But Van Deursen then followed with a strikeout and a flyout left Trinidad at third base.
In the next two at bats, The Hawks also got its lead-off hitter on base.
In the eighth, Michel Offerman singled off of Van Deursen, who was then relieved by Max Ploegstra.
Three outs followed.
In the ninth, off of Kevin Geestman, Gregory Trinidad led off with a single, then his pinch-runner Tim Roodenburg advanced to third base via a stolen base and passed ball (with one out).
A flyout and strikeout then ended the game, securing the second win for DSS.
The eighth inning had two peculiar actions.
In the top of the eighth, with one out and Joffrey Heus on first base for DSS, Lex Leijenaar grounded the ball to second baseman Michel Offerman.
He threw the ball to short stop Chris Williams to force out Heus at second base.
Williams then threw the ball to first baseman Gregory Trinidad to complete a double play.
However, the ball was thrown passed first base, enabling Leijenaar to reach base on a fielder's choice.
Leijenaar rounded the base towards second base, but Trinidad retrieved the ball back in time and tagged out Leijenaar to end the inning.
In the bottom of the eighth, Heus and Offerman was also involved in the second situation.
Offerman led off the at bat with a single, then a pitching change followed.
Next batter Jules Peters then grounded towards first base where first baseman Timo van Erk fielded the ball and threw it towards the covering second baseman Joffrey Heus.
However, in his last meters towards first base, Peters was running inside the basepath on the infield-grass and the throw to first base hit him on his back.
And so, Peters was ruled out for running out of line and interfering with the defensive play.
As this is an interference-situation, runners cannot advance and so Offerman had to return to first base.
