De Hazenkamp vs. Vaessen Pioniers

In today's opener, Pioniers took a 2-0 lead in the second inning without hitting a basehit. With two outs, Hazenkamp-starter Joep Meulendijk suddenly encountered some problems with his control, as he walked four batters in a row. The bases got loaded when Kevin Weijgertse, Glenn Bakker and Max Draijer all walked. Hereafter, veteran Home Plate Umpire Fred van Groningen Schinkel couldn't do anything more than signaling that four more pitches missed the strike-zone with Daniel Fernandes in the batter's box. And so, the first run was scored. Moments later, Bakker scored the second run on a passed ball.

Pioniers scored two more runs in the fifth to lift the lead to 8-0. Glenn Bakker led off with a single. With one out, Daniel Fernandes also singled, then a single by Dirk van 't Klooster and a sacrifice fly by Danny Rombley led to the runs.

De Hazenkamp left four runners in scoring position in this game. In the first at bat, off of starter Reggie Bomberg, Steffen Vos and Dylan Kamoen singled, but both were left behind.

In the second inning, Bart Groenewoud led off with a walk and Robbert Vos singled with one out. Bomberg then followed with a strikeout and a force out ended the inning.

Beginning with the strikeout, Bomberg retired seven of the eight next batters.

In the third, Max Draijer led off with a single and De Cuba single with two outs, but this time runners were left at first and third base.

Pioniers then opened the score with a 4-run rally (all runs were unearned) in the fourth at bat. With one out, Kevin Dirksen reached on an error and Taylor Clemensia walked, then Paul Brands followed with an RBI-double. The next run was scored on a grounder by Max Draijer. Hereafter, veteran players Danny Rombley and Dirk van 't Klooster delivered RBI-singles to make it 4-0. Another single followed, this time hit by Quintin de Cuba, but two more runners were left behind when a flyout followed.

In the fifth inning, off of new pitcher Tacco van den Heuvel, Pioniers stranded two more runners. The fifth run was then scored in a rainy sixth inning. With one out, Van 't Klooster singled and scored on a following double by De Cuba. That was to be the last play in this game, as it was stopped due to the rain, ending it with a 5-0 final score.

Brasschaat Braves was able to hit only one basehit off of two pitchers. Starter Elton Koeiman walked lead-off hitter Kenny Dom in the first inning, but then was supported with a double play. In the second inning, Maxim Arnouts reached on an error with two outs, but then Koeiman ended with a strikeout.

Koeiman then walked Sim Ruts to start the fourth inning and gave up an one-out single to Enrique Javier, who, by the way, is a member of the Netherlands National Men Softball Team. But Brasschaat was unable to score, as a flyout and force out followed.

In the fifth inning, Swen Huijer took over for Pioniers and retired the side.

HCAW vs. De Hazenkamp

After Game 2 was stopped due to the rain, the sky cleared again and the third game went underway. In its first game of the tournament, HCAW took a 2-0 lead, saw De Hazenkamp come alongside, but then re-took the lead and rallied for five runs in the sixth inning en-rout to an 8-2 victory.

HCAW is the only team, besides host De Hazenkamp, to have participated in all tournaments in Nijmegen so far. The team from Bussum opened the score with two runs in the bottom of the first at bat. With one out, Peter van Doesburg and Roy Seltenrijch both walked. They then executed a double-steal and a following grounder by Rowan van Hoek led to the first run. Jarreau Martina followed with a double to make it 2-0.

De Hazenkamp reacted with two runs in the top of the second inning off of starter Giovanni Tensen. With one out, Bas Timmer reached on an error and Bart Groenewoud singled. As an outfield-error followed, Timmer was able to score. With Groenewoud on second base, Wesley Kamoen singled to move the runner to third base. Hereafter, Samuel van Beek grounded into an inning-ending double play, which also led to the tying run. Van Beek grounded to first baseman Rikkert Kempen, who eliminated the batter at first base, then threw the ball to short stop Roy Seltenrijch. But as the batter was first eliminated, the force play was lifted, meaning runner Kamoen had to be tagged out instead of forced out. In the meantime, Groenewoud ran towards the plate and scored the tying run before Kamoen was tagged out to end the inning.

Hereafter, De Hazenkamp was held scoreless by Tensen and his successor Bob Klaarenbeek, who took over in the fifth inning. The latter allowed only two batters to reach base.

HCAW re-took the lead in the fifth inning. Rikkert Kempen led off with a double, stole third base and scored when next batter Jazon Allee reached on an error.

A 5-run rally then lifted the lead to 8-2 in the sixth inning. All runs were scored with two outs. Emersson Paula then singled and the bases got loaded when Boyd Tuhumeru was hit by a pitch and Max Clarijs walked. A single by Rikkert Kempen then accounted for two runs and the bases got re-loaded when Jazon Allee walked. An error on a grounder by Peter van Doesburg then led to the next two runs. Moments later, Allee scored the fifth run in this at bat when an error followed a flyout by Roy Seltenrijch.

HCAW registered six hits in this game, including two double by Jarreau Martina.
