Former Amsterdam-administrator Jogriet Endel passed away
Nederlands

AMSTERDAM (Neth.) - Jogriet Endel, who has been a member of the Board of Rayon Amsterdam for several years, passed away on Friday, August 21 at the age of 72.

The memorial service was held on Thursday, August 27 in Amsterdam.

Johanna Grietje Endel was born on December 18, 1947 in Amsterdam. Through the years, Jogriet Endel and her brother Wim Endel were active for many years at baseball/softball-club ABC and it's parent-club AFC, the wellknown soccer-club based in Amsterdam.

The Amsterdamsche Football Club was founded in January 1895 and is the oldest soccer-club of Amsterdam. Almost since the beginning, the club is nicknamed 'The Reds' (for its red shirt), which also became the nickname of the baseball-team of the club. In 1906, the club moved to a new site at the 'Goed Genoeg Complex', which still is the home-site of the club. Amongst the head coaches of the soccer-club were famous Rinus Michels (1965) and Doby Peters (1980-1988). The latter also was a pitcher (and coach) for many seasons in the baseball-team of ABC. The club created a baseball-section in May 1934. The main baseball-team played in the highest league for fourteen seasons (1939-1940; 1952-1957, 1965-1970).

At ABC, Jogriet Endel and Wim Endel (who passed away in 2004) belonged to a large group of volunteers who were very active for the club. Amongst them were Hans de Bie, Johan de Bie, Jan Meijer, Henk Clemens, Frans Bridié and Simon Mossel. In later years, Els Bridié and Monique van der Heijden did a lot of administrative work for the club. Through the years, these volunteers also were very involved in organizing numerous international youth baseball-tournaments at its home-site, as well as other club-activities.

At ABC, Jogriet Endel was the club's secretary for both baseball and softball in 1975-1978, then again in 1982-1984. Thereafter, she continued doing the public relations for the baseball- and softball-sections until 1996 when both sections were unfortunately dissolved.

In the seventies, Jogriet Endel was a member of the board of the then Rayon Amsterdam, which oversaw all baseball- and softball-activities in the Amsterdam region. For four years (1973-1976), she was a member of the board, which in these years was chaired by Wim Niepoth (1973) and Lex Rimini (1974-1976). Other board-members in these years include Wim Ascherman, Bertus Caldenhove, Wim Endel, Joke Lammen, Benno Niemeijer, Elly Nijhuis, Coen Stoovelaar and Rob Witteveen. Jogriet Endel also was a member of the Financial Committee of Amsterdam in 1978-1980.

Jogriet Endel shared an appartment with her brother Wim and through him, she also became very involved in the administrative works of the Bleesing Fonds, the Kieviten and the Netherlands Baseball and Softball Museum. Since the early eighties, Wim Endel was the treasurer for more than twenty years of both the Bleesing Fonds and the Museum-board. In the same period, he also was a board-member of the Kieviten for more than twenty years. While Jogriet herself was not a member of the board of these organizations, she always supported her brother with his activities. Both the Bleesing Fonds and the Kieviten support several baseball- and softball-initiatives. De Kieviten also is an alumni-club which host frequent get-togethers.

Jogriet Endel, who liked to travel, was always cheerful. She enjoyed the many activities she did, liked being on the home-site of her club and also loved attending the meetings of the Kieviten. For this organization, she also was involved for many years selling merchandise at the bi-annual Haarlem Baseball Week. She joined Henk Dorenbos, Jan Meijer, Rinus Onderwater and Willem Broertjes, who for years manned the sales booth of the Kieviten.

After the baseball- and softball-sections of ABC, were dissolved, Jogriet Endel remained involved and active for AFC and was a supporting member of the club. For many years, she was a frequent visitor of the home-games of the soccer-team of AFC. Jogriet Endel was one of the club-icons of AFC/ABC and will surely be missed.

The webmaster of Grand Slam * Stats & News offers his condolences to the family of Jogriet Endel and wishes them a lot of strength with this big loss.
