HCAW winst twice in double-header vs. Twins Oosterhout
Nederlands
BUSSUM (Neth.) -
HCAW recorded two victories on Saturday (September 5) by winning both games of a double-header against Twins Oosterhout.
HCAW won 8-1 and 4-1.
First, the two teams made up the game that was cancelled due to rain and field-conditions last Thursday.
This game was a home-game for Twins, but was scheduled to be played in Bussum on Thursday.
The light-installation at the home-site of Twins in Oosterhout is not sufficient enough for the big league.
Therefore, the team plays its home-games in the evening at the site of the opposing team.
While Twins will play at home on Sunday, it was decided to move Thursday's game ahead of today's regular scheduled game in Bussum.
The last double-header in the Dutch big league was played during the 2017 season, when there were two.
Both times, Twins Oosterhout was also involved in those double-headers.
On August 6 of that year, Twins played a double-header (including one home-game) at Hoofddorp Pioniers.
In that double-header, current HCAW-players Bob van der Meer and Christopher Ge played for Twins.
Current Twins Head Coach Jeffrey Arends then played for Pioniers, as did Twins-player Shurman Marlin.
Later, on September 17, Twins played a double-header against Quick Amersfoort in the Promotion/Relegation Pool.
These games (including an away-game) were played in Oosterhout.
In today's opening game, HCAW broke an 1-1 tie by scoring two runs in the sixth.
Leading 4-1, HCAW decided the game with a 4-run rally in the ninth inning.
In this game, Raibiëntly Mercalina scored three runs and had two basehits, while Patrick Bok batted in two runs.
Bok and Christopher Ge both also had two basehits.
Brian Biezen recorded two basehits for Twins.
In the second game, HCAW also secured the win late.
Trailing 1-0, the team rallied for three runs in the sixth inning to turn the game its way.
Twins outhit HCAW 6-5 with two hits by Ruendrick Piternella.
Jeandro Tromp produced two of the five HCAW-basehits, while Pascal Zegwaard batted in two runs.

GAME 1
HCAW was retired in order in the top of the first inning by Twins-starter Stefan Iannelli, but then got the bases loaded in the second at bat.
Arthur Bonevacia then led off with a walk and with one out, Kevin Dirksen also walked.
The bases got loaded when Christopher Ge singled.
Hereafter, the inning ended when Leandro Anasagasti grounded into a double play.
HCAW opened the score in the third inning.
Raibiëntly Mercalina and Jeandro Tromp opened the inning with a walk.
Another double play was then turned on a grounder by Berend Ruben.
That brought Mercalina to third base and he scored when Patrick Bok followed with a double.
HCAW-starter Luuk ter Beek retired the first seven batters he faced.
The righthander then walked Jerzy van Gool with one out in the third, but he was forced out.
Trailing 1-0, Twins came alongside in the bottom of the fourth.
Railison Bentura led off with a single, advanced on a grounder by Junior Martina and moved to third base on a wild pitch.
After Shurman Marlin walked, Bentura scored the tying run on a grounder by Jason Halman.
Stefan Iannelli walked his fifth batter in the fifth.
With one out, Raibiëntly Mercalina received a free pass and stole second base, but was left behind.
HCAW broke the 1-1 tie by scoring two unearned runs in the sixth inning off of new pitcher Javier Montero.
He got two quick outs, then saw Rodney Daal reach on an error.
Moments later, Kevin Dirksen and Christopher Ge delivered runscoring back-to-back doubles.
And that gave HCAW a 3-1 lead.
Another run was added in the seventh inning.
Raibiëntly Mercalina led off with a single.
He then stole second base, moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Jeandro Tromp, then scored on a single by Berend Ruben.
Pastor Enrique Martínez Chavez took over the pitching for Twins in the eighth inning.
He retired the side, but then gave up four runs in the ninth.
The first six HCAW-batters reached base safely off of Martínez.
He walked lead-off hitter Leandro Anasagasti (who moved on a wild pitch), then gave up a single to Raibiëntly Mercalina, who reached base for the fourth time.
After Mercalina had stolen second base, Jeandro Tromp produced a runscoring single.
Martínez got the bases loaded when he walked Berend Ruben.
All three runners would score shortly thereafter.
Mercalina scored on a single by Patrick Bok and Tromp scored when Arthur Bonevacia was hit by a pitch.
With the bases still loaded, Ruben scored the next run on a sacrifice fly by Rodney Daal and that lifted the lead to 8-1.
Twins Oosterhout got into scoring position only once in its final four at bats.
After HCAW had taken a 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth, Luuk ter Beek retired the side in the bottom of the sixth.
He then gave up a lead-off single to Jason Halman in the seventh, but he was left behind on first base.
With HCAW leading 4-1, Gio de Graauw took over the HCAW-pitching in the bottom of the eighth.
He walked the first two batters he faced, Nick Peels and Tyriq Kemp.
With one out, Peels advanced to third base on a flyout, but the team left runners behind on first and third base.
With two outs in the ninth, Brian Biezen singled.
He was forced out on a grounder by Jerzy van Gool and that ended the first game today.
And with that, De Graauw earned his league-leading fifth save.

GAME 2
Both starting pitchers threw five scoreless innings, then both teams scored in the sixth inning, HCAW after a pitching change.
HCAW-starter Dennis Burgersdijk got three runners in scoring position in the first five innings he pitched.
The righthander gave up a 2-out single to Junior Martina in the first inning, but a grounder ended the at bat.
He then got two runners in scoring position in the second inning.
With one out, Ruendrick Piternella doubled and Diamond Silberie was hit by a pitch.
The two moved on a grounder by Brian Biezen, but then stranded on second and third base.
In the third inning, Burgersdijk again got two baserunners, but only one got into scoring position.
With one out, Rayshelon Carolina walked and with two outs, Shurman Marlin singled.
They also were left behind.
Burgersdijk retired the side in the fourth and fifth inning, but then gave up a run in the top of the sixth.
After Burgersdijk had retired nine batters in a row, he gave up a 2-out double to Jason Halman in the sixth.
Moments later, Halman scored on a single by Ruendrick Piternella.
Sora Sakashita was the starter for Twins and he got only two runners in the scoring position.
The Japanese righthander retired the side in the first inning.
With one out in the second, he gave up a single to Kevin Dirksen, who moved on a grounder by Christopher Ge, but was left behind on second base.
In the third, Sakashita gave up a 2-out single to Jeandro Tromp, who then stranded on first base.
In the fourth inning, Sakashita got two baserunners when he walked Rodney Daal and Kevin Dirksen with one out.
A flyout and grounder ended the at bat.
With one out in the fifth, Sakashita got another runner after he had struckout the first batter.
He walked Raibiëntly Mercalina, but then eliminated him via a successful pick-off.
With Twins leading only 1-0, a pitching change was done in the bottom of the sixth.
Sora Sakashita had thrown five solid innings in which he threw 73 pitches.
But in the bottom of the sixth, he was relieved by Marvin Brown, who made his first appearance of the season.
However, Brown issued four free passes, was credited with three earned runs and became the losing pitcher.
Brown walked lead-off hitter Linoy Croes, who moved into scoring position via a sacrifice bunt by Patrick Bok.
Hereafter, Brown hit Rodney Daal with a pitch and saw the two runners advance on a wild pitch.
After striking out Kevin Dirksen, Brown got the bases loaded when he walked Christopher Ge.
Next, Croes was able to score the tying run when next batter Arhur Lugtmeijer also walked.
That led to another pitching change.
Raf Cocu took over, but he was greeted with a 2-run single by Pascal Zegwaard that gave HCAW a 3-1 lead.
HCAW added an unearned insurance run in the seventh inning.
Jeandro Tromp led off with a single, stole second base, advanced on a passed ball and scored on an one-out single by Patrick Bok.
With HCAW now leading 4-1, Arij Fransen took over the pitching in the top of the eighth.
He retired the side, then got two baserunners in the ninth.
With one out, Fransen walked Nick Peels, then gave up a single to Diamond Silberie, which gave Twins runners on first and third base.
Fransen followed with a strikeout, then a pop-fly ended the inning and the game.
And with that, Fransen earned his fourth save.
And it ended a long day on the field, that began almost six hours earlier with the first game of the double-header.
