However, as you know, the baseball-season is on hold, as all regular season-games have been annuled through June 30 because of measures taken against the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. New dates have not yet been announced. (© Photo: Henk Seppen) From March 12 on, the Government of the Netherlands regularly announced several (stricter) measures due to the coronavirus. On Wednesday (May 6), there was another update regarding the measures and a little more freedom was announced then. For children and youngsters to 18 years old, some sports-activities were allowed. Also, from May 11 on, atletes of 19 and older can do some outside sports with each other. In all cases, a 1,5 meter social distance has to be observed. It was also announced that official games and competitions remain not possible through September 1. On Tuesday (May 12), the Royal Netherlands Baseball and Softball Association (KNBSB) announced that it has annuled all official regular season games in all baseball/softball leagues through Tuesday, June 30. The KNBSB is in talks with the NOC*NSF (Netherlands Olympic Committee/Netherlands Sports Federations) regarding options how to continue, as it still hopes a new season can be played this year. Article regarding annulment games KNBSB through June 30 By postponing games through June 30, the KNBSB keeps a 3-week preparation period intact which comes into effect when it is allowed to start the season when possible. We don't know when, but baseball and softball of course also will be back in the Netherlands! Of course only when it is safe to do so for everyone involved. Until then, take care and stay safe!
