HCAW sets records with nineteenth consecutive win
Nederlands

BUSSUM - HCAW nipped reigning champion L&D Amsterdam Pirates 8-7 on Thursday-afternoon (May 26) to extend its winning streak since the start of the season to 19 games.

With today's victory, the Bussum-club set one club-record and tied another.

In 2004, HCAW won the final 18 games of the regular season. And so, with today's win, HCAW broke its single-season record for most consecutive victories.

However, the overall club-record for most wins in a row over two seasons was 19. After winning its final 18 games in 2004, the team opened the 2005 season with another victory to make it a 19-game winning streak. That means that HCAW today equaled that club-record.

Coming Saturday (May 28), HCAW and Pirates will meet again in Amsterdam. The teams close their 3-game series on Sunday in Bussum. Coming week, HCAW closes the first half of the season with a 3-game series against Curaçao Neptunus.

Today, HCAW and Amsterdam Pirates played an attractive game with a lot of action, that took three hours and 38 minutes to complete and had a close line score.

HCAW trailed only once, which was halfway the first inning. Pirates had opened the game with one run in the top of the first inning, but HCAW answered with three runs in its own first at bat. In the second inning, Pirates came alongside.

After HCAW re-took the lead with two runs in the third inning, both teams scored once in the fourth. Moments later, in the top of the fifth, Pirates tied the score for the second time by scoring two runs.

Again, HCAW was able to come back and re-take the lead, scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth. HCAW added an insurance run in the seventh. That was a much-needed run for the home-team, as Pirates scored again in the eighth. But in the end, the winning streak of HCAW remained intact.

Both teams collected 13 basehits. Jair van Borkulo and Jules Cremer both had three basehits for HCAW. Van Borkulo also batted in three runs. On the Amsterdam-side, Delano Selassa recorded four basehits, while Roelie Henrique had three.
