Nederlands

ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - Curaçao Neptunus keeps on adding new players. For the sixth time since early October, the club acquired a player from another team. This time, Neptunus added outfielder Rayshelon Carolina, the club announced on Tuesday (October 25). Carolina is the fourth player coming to the Rotterdam-club from Twins Oosterhout.

First, in late September, Neptunus announced that Greg Muller was named new Head Coach as the successor of Raily Legito. Shortly thereafter, Neptunus acquired pitchers Ryan Huntington and Tom de Blok. In the following weeks, Neptunus announced the addition of outfielder/first baseman Arthur Bonevacia, then the return of infielder Tyriq Kemp and the coming of righthanded pitcher Mike Groen. Like Carolina, Huntington, Bonevacia and Kemp also played for Twins Oosterhout this season. De Blok and Groen are coming from Amsterdam Pirates. Both started the season on the injured list, but only Groen came into action. De Blok didn't pitch the entire season.

In early October, Neptunus-pitcher Kaj Timmermans returned to HCAW, as was confirmed by the Bussum-club.

So far, only Neptunus and HCAW have announced some of their transfers. They will become official when the tranfer-period ends on November 15.

Neptunus stated that Carolina will fill in the vacant place in the outfield as Jiandido Tromp has left. In the announcement, Neptunus-Chairman Jorian van Acker stated:
,,With the arrival of Rayshelon, we have almost completed the selection for 2023. He ensures that we have multiple options for our line-up both offensively and defensively. Rayshelon has shown in recent years with Twins that he is a good batter and defensively he is one of the best outfielders in the big league. His qualities come in handy in the large outside field of our Neptunus Family Stadium.''

Lefthanded hitting outfielder Rayshelon Carolina played for Twins Oosterhout in the past three seasons. However, before making his debut in the highest Dutch baseball-league, Carolina already played in the Netherlands and he did that at the site which now will be his home-field. During the 2019 World Port Tournament, Carolina played for the National Team of Curaçao in the international tournament in which the games are played at the home-site of Neptunus.

In 2020, Carolina played in twenty games for Twins Oosterhout and batted .190 (11-for-58) with no extra-basehits. He scored nine runs and batted in only two.

Last year, Carolina did much better in his second season. He was the second-best hitter of Twins with a .308 batting average (41-for-133) with nine doubles and two triples. Carolina led the team with 32 runs scored, 41 basehits, nine doubles, 37 walks, a .468 on-base percentage and was second in stolen bases (11). With that, the outfielder, who batted in fifteen runs, played an important role for Twins reaching the Play-Offs.

This season, Twins again qualified for the Play-Offs. Carolina batted .254 (18-for-71) with one double and one triple. He led the team with 14 runs scored and 14 runs batted in.

During the interntional Baseball Week Haarlem last Summer in Haarlem (Netherlands), Rayshelon Carolina again played for the National Team of Curaçao.

In 2017, Carolina, who studied and played college-baseball in the USA for two years, played one season professionally in an Independent League.
