HEEMSTEDE (Neth.) -
The home-opener of the new 2023 season between RCH Memorie Sieraden against UVV has been cancelled again on Friday-evening (April 7).
Initially, the game was scheduled to be played on Thursday-evening at the home-site of RCH-Pinguïns in Heemstede, but then was cancelled early in the evening due to rain and the condition of the playing-field.
At that moment, the game against UVV was the lone still on the opening-schedule, as all three other games already had been cancelled earlier in the day.
All four games were re-scheduled for tonight, but in the late afternoon, it became cleat that the field still was unplayable after the rain of the previous days.
The game had now been re-scheduled for coming Tuesday-evening (April 11).
For tonight's game, UVV had changed it starting rotation.
Rookie righthander Allard Helms, who was to be the starter in Game 3 on Sunday, was moved to tonight.
Lefthander Aaron Isenia, who was announced as starter for the opener on Thursday, would start on Sunday instead.
Because of tonight's cancellation, UVV's new starting rotation again changed somewhat.
The team now opens the season at home in Vleuten on Saturday with righthander Jurjen van Zijl as starting pitcher, who already was announced for the team's home-opener.
On Sunday, Game 2 follows in Heemstede and Aaron Isenia, who already had been moved to that game, will remain the starter.
Allard Helms now will be starter in the make-up game on Tuesday-evening in Heemstede.
RCH-Pinguïns will not change its rotation for the two games in the weekend, meaning righthander Juan Carlos Sulbaran will start on Saturday and righthander Jeremy Young on Sunday.
Righthander T'sean Martina was announced as starter for Thursday and also would have been the starter tonight.
A starting pitcher for Tuesday's make-up game has not yet been announced.
This season, UVV makes its comeback in the highest Dutch baseball-league.
The team last played in the big league in 2017.
