Today not only was a lows-coring game, it also was a low-hitting game, as both teams recorded only three basehits.
A game without not that much spectacle.
Besides that, Quick Amersfoort arrived with a very small group of players in Hoofddorp.
Some 20 minutes before game-time, a line-up change was announced, as one of the players (who was in the starting line-up) was not yet in Hoofddorp.
As there were no position-players left over, Jack Wagner, who was the starting pitcher in the opener on Friday, was penciled in as designated hitter.
Later in the game, he was replaced by pinch-hitter Joel Martis, who is a relief-pitcher.
Hoofddorp Pioniers opened the score in the first inning off of starter Brian van Laar.
The lefthander walked lead-off hitter Bodhi de Vreede, then also next batter Terrance Heemskerk.
After an infield-fly, a successful double-steal followed.
De Vreede then scored on a grounder by Daan Terstall.
Pioniers doubled its lead in the second inning.
Again, Van Laar walked the first two batters, Vincent Mevissen and Max Vonk.
Like in the first at bat, an infield-fly followed.
Thereafter, the two advanced on a wild pitch.
This time, it was Mevissen, who scored on a grounder, hit by Miquel Willem.
In the next three innings, Van Laar encountered no problems and got only one baserunner.
With one out in the fourth inning, Vincent Mevissen singled, but he was then eliminated in a double play.
Quick Amersfoort recorded only one bashit in the first six innings off of two pitchers, but left four runners behind in scoring position.
In the first inning, the team was retired in order (one strikeout) by debuting rookie Just van den Ouweelen.
In the second at bat, the righthander gave up a lead-off single to Irving Redan, who stole second base while a strikeout accounted for the second out, but then was left behind.
Trailing 2-0, Quick got a runner on third base in the top of the third.
With one out, Jordy Burger walked and with two outs, he advanced on a passed ball, then was awarded third base on a balk.
A grounder ended the at bat.
In the top of the fourth, Quick got another chance to erase the deficit, as it got the bases loaded.
With one out (strikeout), Van den Ouweelen walked Irving Redan, but followed with a strikeout.
Redan then stole second base and Jurian Hansen walked.
After the two runners had advanced on a wild pitch, Quick got the bases loaded when Lars Visser was hit by a pitch.
With three runners on base, Van den Ouweelen struckout Luca Muller, his third strikeout in this inning and sixth overall.
In the top of the fifth, Sem Nijman took over the Pioniers-pitching with a 2-0 lead.
As starter Just van den Ouweelen had not thrown the required five complete innings, he could not become the winning pitcher.
Nijman retired the side in the fifth and sixth inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, Pioniers scored its next run, but also left three runners behind.
With one out, the bases got loaded via Duncan Beljaards (hit by pitch), Daan Terstall (walk) and Michael Dumitrescu (walk).
A pitching-change followed and Riley Gonesh took over from Brian van Laar.
He got a grounder from Vincent Mevissen, but that also enabled Beljaards to score.
A force play-grounder then ended the at bat.
In the top of the seventh, Quick got another scoring-opportunity, but was kept scoreless again.
Jurian Hansen led off with a double, then Lars Visser reached on an error.
Moments later, Hansen took of somewhat from second base.
Reliever Sem Nijman stepped off the plate and got Hansen in a rundown, where he was caught stealing.
Visser advanced on the play, but was left behind on second base, as a strikeout and grounder followed.
In the top of the eighth, Kaien Oukes took over the Pioniers-pitching.
He gave up a 2-out single to Pascal Zegwaard, but he stranded on first base.
Pioniers then added another insurance run in the bottom of the eighth off of new pitcher Jasper Popken.
With one out, Michael Dumitrescu doubled down the leftfield-line and Vincent Mevissen walked.
With two outs, Andreas Meijer delivered an RBI-double that made it a 4-0 score.
In the top of the ninth, Quick got its final runner in scoring position.
With one out, Jurian Hansen and Lars Visser both walked.
With these two runners on base, closer Nick Loos took over the pitching.
He first got a flyout, then a comeback-grounder, which ended the game.
And with that, Loos earned his second save of the weekend.
