Today's game was slowpaced.
After some one-and-a-half-hour, only three innings were in the books.
The visiting UVV-team had the lead twice, but RCH-Pinguïns came back both times.
And then the long 10-run rally of the home-team had yet to come.
In the top of the first inning, it was UVV that opened the score off of Australian starter Jeremy Young, who this season also is RCH's Pitching Coach.
With two outs, the righthander gave up a single to Quin Cotton, who scored when Jorge Luis Espinal Ventura followed with a double.
Young closed with a strikeout.
RCH-Pinguïns answered with two runs in its first at bat off of Aaron Isenia, who played in his first big league-since 2018 when he played for Quick Amersfoort.
Initially, Isenia was to be the starting pitcher in the opener on Thursday-evening, but when that rained out, his start moved to today's game.
Today's announced starter Allard Helms was moved to the make-up game on Friday, but that also was cancelled.
Helms now will start coming Tuesday-evening (weather permitting).
Isenia walked lead-off hitter Koen Werkman, who moved into scoring postion when a pick-off attempt ended in an error.
With one out, he advanced to third base on a passed ball, then Jesse Aussems was hit by a pitch.
A following pop-fly by Aldrich Guzman accounted for the second out.
No infield-fly of course, as first and third base were occupied, instead off first and second (or the bases loaded).
But with two outs, Werkman scored the tying run on a wild pitch.
Moments later, Aussems scored on a single by Denzel Brooks to put RCH ahead, 2-1.
After UVV had left a runner on second base in the top of the second, RCH scored an unearned run in its second at bat.
Lead-off hitter Geoffrey Verhoef reached on an error and moved on a grounder, then an infield-hit by Koen Werkman.
The latter was then caught stealing, but Verhoef scored when Jeldwin Orman followed with a single.
That also led to a pitching-change.
Gijs van den Brink, also a lefthander, took over and closed by striking out Jesse Aussems.
UVV erased the 3-1 deficit in the top of the third and took the lead for the second time by scoring three runs.
With one out, UVV got the bases loaded via Roy Winkel (walk), Quin Cotton (infield-hit) and Jorge Luis Espinal Ventura (single).
Next batter J'mar Calliste lined the ball back to pitcher Jeremy Young.
He reached, but the ball ricocheted off of his glove towards the short stop-area.
3B Umpire Richard Wessel jumped out of the way, while short stop Jesse Aussems attempted to stop the ball, reached and fell down.
The ball went through and two runners scored.
In the meantime, Aussems was on the ground with what appeared an injury to his left leg.
He was attended and after a 3-minute delay, he was able to continue.
With runners at the corners, next batter Stefan Kuipers hit the ball into the ground.
It jumped up in the air, was caught by the running Young, who then turned around (while approaching first base) and threw the ball to catcher Luis Enrique Gonzalez Garay, attempting to eliminate runner Espinal.
But the ball was thrown in front of the catcher, so the runner scored and UVV now also had runners on first and second base.
After a flyout, the runners advanced on a passed ball.
But with runners now on second and third base, the at bat ended with a foul pop-fly, caught by the catcher.
In the bottom of the third, RCH-Pinguïns got runners on second and third base with one out, but was unable to score.
Aldrich Guzman (single) and Sebastiaan van der Horst (walk) executed a double-steal with one out, but a pop-fly in centerfield (just behind the infield-border at second base) and a flyout towards first base followed.
RCH-Pinguïns then did score in the bottom of the fourth, which had three walks, three wild pitches, two passed balls and a balk.
Lead-off hitter Daan Groenewoud singled and advanced on a wild pitch and passed ball, then scored the tying run on a grounder by Jeldwin Orman.
Before that grounder Koen Werkman had walked.
He advanced on the grounder, reached third base on a passed ball, then scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch during the at bat of Aldrich Guzman.
Moments later, Guzman walked and was awarded second base on a balk.
Next batter Denzel Brooks then received the third walk in this at bat.
The two runners then advanced on the third wild pitch in this inning by Gijs van den Brink, but he then closed the at bat by striking out Sebastiaan van der Horst.
But RCH now had taken the lead again, 5-4.
In the top of the fifth, it was UVV that got another scoring-opportunity.
Quin Cotton and Jorge Luis Espinal Ventura began with singles, but Jeremy Young then struckout J'mar Calliste.
With one out, Cotton moved to third base on a wild pitch.
With runners at the corners, an attempt for a double-steal failed, as Cotton was eliminated at the plate.
With Espinal on second base, a grounder ended the at bat.
Moments later, in the bottom of the fifth, RCH-Pinguïns completely broke open the game and took a decisive lead via a 10-run rally off of three pitchers.
With one out, Geoffrey Verhoef reached on an error and Daan Groenewoud singled, which led to the first pitching-change.
Sean Wout took over, while Raul Jacobs was inserted as pinch-runner at second base for Verhoef.
But Wout ran into problems.
He first got the bases loaded when he walked Koen Werkman.
Thereafter, all three runners scored when Jeldwin Orman reached on an infield-hit and both Jesse Aussems and Aldrich Guzman walked.
The next was then scored when Wout also walked Denzel Brooks.
With the bases still loaded and only one out, another pitching-change followed.
Third baseman Stefan Kuipers took over the pitching, which also led to some changes in the infield and UVV losing its designated hitter.
Kuipers also was unable to stop RCH's scoring.
While facing his first batter, a balk was called on his second delivery, which led to a run and he then gave up a 2-run double to Sebastiaan van der Horst.
That was followed by a runscoring single by Luis Enrique Gonzalez Garay in his second at bat in the inning.
The scoring wasn't over yet.
After next batter Raul Jacobs had reached on an error, two more runs were added on singles by Daan Groenewoud (he had two basehits in this inning) and Koen Werkman, which lifted the lead to 15-4.
Two flyouts then finally ended the long at bat.
UVV managed to score three more runs in the top of the seventh inning to erase the 10-run difference.
New pitcher T'sean Martina hit lead-off hitter Malcolm Marlin.
With one out, he got the bases loaded when Quin Cotton delivered his fourth basehit and Jorge Luis Espinal Ventura walked.
J'mar Calliste followed with a 2-run single.
With two outs, Espinal scored on a single by Jeret Adair.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, RCH-Pinguïns reached the 10-run difference again.
Paris Aguilera Zayas led off with a double and was awarded third base on a balk.
After next batter Koen Werkman walked, a run was scored when Tijani Dunlop reached on an error.
With runners on first and second base and no outs, Jesse Aussems delivered a walk-off, runscoring single.
Werkman scored and that made it a 17-7 score.
