It was a cold afternoon in Heemstede with a temperature of only 9 degrees Celsius (48,2 Fahrenheit), but their was a cold wind chill and the apparent temperature was only 6 degrees (42,8). The game between RCH-Pinguïns and Neptunus remained scoreless for six innings. Neptunus then scored twice, added a run, held the home-team scoreless in the remainder of the game and recorded a small 3-0 win.

Neptunus got runners on base in each of the first four innings, but was unable to score off of RCH-starter Jeremy Young. In the top of the first inning, the Australian righthander gave up a lead-off single to Stijn van der Meer, but he was caught stealing moments later. With two outs, John Polonius singled, but stranded on first base.

In the second inning, it was Arthur Bonevacia who led off for Neptunus with a single. With one out, he was forced out on second base on a grounder by Sheadion Jamanika, who then also was left on first base.

Neptunus got its first runner in scoring position in the top of the third. With one out, Stijn van der Meer reached on an infield-hit and Roger Bernadina followed with a single though the middle of the infield. With two outs, Bernadina was forced out, which ended this at bat.

And in the fourth, Neptunus again had runners on first and second base. For the second time, Arthur Bonevacia led off with a single. With two outs, Louie-Jay Sienders also singled. A grounder followed.

After Neptunus was retired in order in the fifth inning, the team got a runner at third base in the top of the sixth. Dwayne Kemp led off with a double, then was unable to advance on a bunt by Arthur Bonevacia. With that, Bonevacia was credited with an at bat, instead of a sacrifice bunt. Kemp then did move to third base when Christian Diaz flied out. Next batter Sheadion Jamanika was walked intentionally after he already had a 3-0 count. With runners at the corners, the at bat ended when Louie-Jay Sienders flied out.

How did RCH-Pinguïns do in its first six at bats?

The home-team got its first runner in scoring position immediately in the bottom of the first inning off of starter Kevin Kelly. With one out, Tijani Dunlop reached on a bunt-single and stole second base with two outs, but then was left behind.

In the next three innings, RCH-Pinguïns was retired in order by Kelly, who struck three batters in this span. In the bottom of the fifth, it was RCH that came close to the opening-run and was the first one to get a runner on third base. Denzel Brooks led off with a walk. Moments later, he stole second base and advanced to third base when the throw from catcher Louie-Jay Sienders ended up in centerfield. But with Brooks on third base, Kelly struckout the next three batters! RCH was then retired in order in the sixth.

Neptunus finally was able to do some scoring in the top of the seventh off of Jeremy Young. He gave up a lead-off single to Rayshelon Carolina, who was moved into scoring position via a sacrifice bunt by Stijn van der Meer. With first base open, next batter Roger Bernadina was walked intentionally, not only to pitch around the powerhitter, but also to set up a force play. Neptunus then got the bases loaded when John Polonius delivered a single. Moments later, Carolina scored the first run on a wild pitch. As first base was open again, another intentional walk was issued, this time to Dwayne Kemp. Again, the force play-grounder didn't come. Instead, another run was scored when next batter Arthur Bonevacia was hit by a pitch. Hereafter, the needed grounder did come, as Christian Diaz grounded into an 1-2-3 double play, but Neptunus had taken a 2-0 lead.

RCH-Pinguïns left another runner behind in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh. WIth two outs, Denzel Brooks singled and stole second base, but stranded there.

In the top of the eighth, Moreno Vork took over the RCH-pitching to make his first appearance of the season. The righthander was supported with a double play after the lead-off hitter had reached on an error.

Another RCH-runner stranded on second base in the bottom of the eighth. With one out, Geoffrey Verhoef singled and he stole second base with two outs. A groundout followed.

Neptunus added an insurance run in the top of the ninth. With one out, Roger Bernadina singled and stole second base, then moved on a single by John Polonius. With runners at the corners, Moreno Vork struckout Dwayne Kemp. But now with two outs, Bernadina scored in a double steal-situation.

With a 3-0 lead, lefthander Ryan Huntington took over the Neptunus-pitching in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, he walked Jesse Aussems, then gave up a 2-out double to Denzel Brooks. And so, with two outs and runners on second and third base, RCH now had the tying run coming to bat. That was pinch-hitter Daan Groenewoud, but he grounded out and that ended the game.
