Neptunus again decided a game late with some late-inning run-production.
Neptunus trailed twice and the score was tied at 3-3 after four innings when the team finally was able to not only take the lead for the second time, but also to take more distance.
Neptunus opened the score in the top of the first inning offf of starter Kaien Oukes.
The lefthander gave up a lead-off double to Stijn van der Meer, who then scored on an one-out double by John Polonius, who stranded on second base himself.
Hoofddorp Pioniers answered with two runs on four basehits in its first at bat off of starter Kevin Kelly.
With one out, Michael Dumitrescu doubled and scored the tying run on a following single by Daan Terstall.
Pioniers got the bases loaded when Duncan Beljaards also singled and Miquel Willem walked.
Kelly followed with a strikeout, but then gave up a runscoring single to Vincent Mevissen.
Still with three runners on base, Kelly closed with another strikeout.
Neptunus came alongside in the top of the second inning.
This time, Christian Diaz led off with a double and he went on to score on a 2-out single by Jayden Mohamed, who tonight played in the outfield instead of regular Rayshelon Carolina.
Again, Pioniers answered immediately and re-took the lead in the bottom of the second.
With one out, Bodhi de Vreede struckout, but reached on a wild pitch.
He then stole second base and scored on a 2-out single by Duncan Beljaards.
This lead also was shortlived and although Neptunus came alongside, the team failed to take the lead in the top of the fourth.
Kaien Oukes retired the first two batters, but then got the bases loaded when he walked Jayden Mohamed, Stijn van der Meer and Roger Bernadina.
That led to a pitching change and Alden Stacie took over for Pioniers.
He began with a walk for John Polonius, which led to the tying run.
A force play ended the at bat and so, three runners were left behind.
From the fifth inning on, Neptunus turned the game its way and scored eleven runs in the next four at bats.
In the top of the fifth, with the score at 3-3, Neptunus scored three runs with two outs after the first eight batters had reached base.
Arthur Bonevacia led off with a single and Christian Diaz walked.
A pitching change followed and Jesse van Es took the mound for Pioniers, replacing Alden Stacie.
He got a grounder from Sheadion Jamanika, which led to the force out of Diaz at second base, while Bonevacia advanced to third base.
Next, the bases got loaded when Louie-Jay Sienders walked.
Bonevacia then tried to score on a wild pitch, but was eliminated, while the other two runners advanced.
The bases were re-loaded again when next batter Jayden Mohamed also walked.
And so, the first five batters in this at bat now had all reached bases, but still no run was scored.
That changed shortly thereafter, as Stijn van der Meer also walked.
That brought in Jamanika, gave Neptunus a 4-3 lead and kept the bases loaded.
Roger Bernadina followed with a 2-run single.
The bases got loaded again when John Polonius received the fifth walk in this at bat.
But this time, three runners were left behind, as a flyout ended the inning.
Although no batter that had reached base off of Alden Stacie had scored, he was credited with the first run in the fifth inning and therefore, he was the losing pitcher.
That has to do with the transfer-rule in the scoring-rules.
Sheadion Jamanika, the first batter off of new pitcher and rookie Jesse van Es, reached base on a fielder's choice-grounder, which led to the elimination of runner Christian Diaz, who had reached off of Stacie.
With that, the responsibility of this runner (of the former pitcher) now transfered to the batter who had reached on the fielder's choice.
As Jamanika later scored, that run also tranfered and was credited to Stacie.
Neptunus again scored three runs in the top of the sixth.
Arthur Bonevacia led offf with a walk and Christian Diaz singled, which led to the next pitching change.
Sem Nijman, who last season played for Tridents, the second team of Neptunus, took over and got the bases loaded when he walked Sheadion Jamanika.
After an infield-fly had accounted for the first out, all three runners went on to score on three more walks.
This time for Jayden Mohamed, Stijn van der Meer and Roger Bernadina.
And so, the bases were still loaded, but two flyouts ended the at bat and for the third time in a row, three runners were left behind.
A 5-run rally in the top of the eighth increased the lead to 14-3.
As result of an error, all five runs were unearned.
Lead-off hitter Louie-Jay Sienders reached on an error and with one out, Stijn van der Meer and Roger Bernadina both singled.
Sienders then scored on a wild pitch and Van der Meer on a grounder by John Polonius, which could have been the third out.
But now the inning continued.
With two outs, Dwayne Kemp delivered a runscoring single.
When next batter <>Arhur Bonevacia also singled, it was time for another pitching change.
This time, rookie Jack van Gorkum was inserted to make his pitching-debut in the Dutch big league.
He gave up RBI-singles to Christian Diaz and Sheadion Jamanika, then got the bases loaded when he walked Sienders.
Van Gorkum closed by striking out Jayden Mohamed.
With that, Neptunus left three runners behind for the fourth time.
In total, the team left sixteen runners behind, including ten in scoring position.
Trailing 9-3, Pioniers got a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the sixth off off new pitcher Ryan Huntington.
The lefthander gave up a lead-offf single to Vincent Mevissen, who advanced on a passed ball.
Huntington struckout three of the next four batters.
In the seventh inning, Jayden Gonesh made his first pitching-appearance of the season for Neptunus.
Gonesh had been sidelined with a back-injury for a few months, but tonight, the rigthhander retired the side in his lone inning.
Veteran lefthander Diegomar Markwell then pitched the eighth inning with Neptunus leading 14-3.
However, Pioniers then erased the 10-run difference by scoring twice.
With one out, Vincent Mevissen singled and scored on a following triple by Thom Hoogkamer, who scored himself on a single by Max Vonk.
Markwell followed with a strikeout and a grounder ended the at bat.
That also ended the game, as the 10:30 curfew-time had been reached.
