Starting Pitchers coming series
Nederlands
AMSTERDAM (Neth.) -
On Thursday-evening (June 29), the opening-games are scheduled for the next 3-game series in both the Top-4 Pool and Bottom-5 Pool.
These two Pools form the second half of the regular season in the Dutch big league.
The final games in these Pools are scheduled for Sunday, August 20.
Four days later, the Wild Card Series begin en route to the Play-Offs and the Holland Series.
In the second round of the Top-4 Pool, the games between league-leaders Curaçao Neptunus and HCAW ended with small scores, but Neptunus won the series, 2-1.
Amsterdam Pirates recorded two big and convincing victories against RCH Memorie Sieraden, which had won the opener of the 3-game series.
In the third round of the Bottom-5 Pool, Quick Amersfoort won its first two games against Hoofddorp Pioniers, including one via the mercy-rule.
Pioniers then recorded a mercy-rule, 10-0 shutout of its own in the third game of the series.
DSS/Kinheim opened its series against Twins Oosterhout with a mercy-rule win on a cold Thursday-evening.
In the weekend, both teams won and with that, DSS/Kinheim won the series, 2-1.
UVV had no games scheduled last weekend.
Last weekend, some teams had to do without some of their regular younger players, who were invited to take part in the MLB Camp in Londen (England).
Also last weekend, Neptunus, HCAW and RCH-Pinguïns missed one of their players, as will be the case in the upcoming series.
Outfielder Rayshelon Carolina (Neptunus), pitcher Sedley Karel (HCAW) and pitcher Chris Koeiman (RCH) are currently in El Salvador.
There, they participate with the National Team of Curaçao in the Central American and Caribbean Games.
On Tuesday, Neptunus added American catcher Tony Krueger to its active roster.
Krueger, who also is an utility player and played for the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), will be with the team from Thursday on.
Twins had to do without Czech righthander Filip Čapka last weekend.
He was in Czech capital Prague to participate in the Prague Baseball Week with the Czech National Team.
During the tournament, Čapka was the starting pitcher in a 13-5 win against Austria, but he had a no-decision as he threw only 3 1/3 inning.
The Czech Team won the tournament by winning 9-5 in the Final against Globetrotters (USA).
The starting and losing pitcher for Globetrotters was Benjamin Meyer, who threw 3 1/3 inning in which he gave up five basehits and seven (earned) runs.
This season, Meyer pitched in the Dutch big league for Amsterdam Pirates with whom he participated in the European Champions Cup-tournament earlier this month.
After that event, Meyer said goodbye to the team, as he was returning home to the USA.
Čapka will be back with the Twins-team in the upcoming series.
However, the Oosterhout-team still has to do without righthanders Simon Gross and Koen Postelmans, who both are injured since early June.
HCAW announced its starters later than normal, which has to do with the injury of righthander Lars Huijer, who has not pitched after completion of the European Champions Cup-tournament on June 10.
The team also confirmed that Canadian righthander Jared Mortensen had been added to the active roster again.
Last season, Mortensen played in one game for the Bussum-team, before returning to Heidenheim Heideköpfe in Germany.
He then pitched in two games for HCAW in the Holland Series.
Mortensen again plays in Germany this season and he will be with the HCAW-team on Thursday-evening.
He will play in that game to make him eligible to play for HCAW in the postseason.
Mortensen returns to Germany on Friday.
The starting rotation for RCH-Pinguïns is not known at the moment.
A decision has not yet been made (or announced) on who will throw when, which has to do with the ejection of starter Jeremy Young last Sunday.
The team now waits for the announcement whether or not he will be suspended.
Beneath are the announced starting pitchers for the upcoming 3-game series that opens on Thursday-evening, June 29.
As always, these assignments can change on game-days.
Listed between the first parentheses is the record in the second half, listed in the second pair of parentheses is the record in the first half of the season.
