Amsterdam Pirates set the tone today with a 7-run rally in the top of the first inning.
The team led 20-0 after four at bats, then added only one more run in the next three innings of this mercy-rule game.
Pirates had three double innings in the game, due to three big rallies.
Pirates-lefthander Nelmerson Angela had a strong outing today and came close to a No-Hitter, giving up only one basehit.
Angela got only three baserunners, two of them in the seventh inning.
Angela retired the first thirteen batters he faced, striking out four of them.
But with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, Angela's Perfect Game and No-Hitter ended when Emeron Lourens hit the ball into centerfield for a single.
Moments later, Lourens was eliminated in an unassisted double play after first baseman Jules Cremer caught a line drive off the bat of Irving Redan.
Angela retired the side again in the sixth inning
In the bottom of the seventh, Angela walked lead-off hitter Amar van Zwieten, but he followed with his sixth strikeout in the game.
Thereafter, Van Zwieten was forced out on second base on a grounder by Pascal Zegwaard.
A pop-fly from Marvin Jakobus then ended the inning and the game, as Pirates led 21-0 at that moment.
Quick Amersfoort had a surprise starting pitcher today.
Earlier in the week, Quick had been only announced starters for the first game (on Wednesday) and third game (tomorrow), but not for the second game (today).
Starting today was veteran righthander Elton Koeiman, who is the Head Coach of Quick this season, his first as Head Coach in the highest league.
Although, he was named as a possible reliever in some earlier games this season, this was the first time that he actually took the mound.
Last season, Koeiman was the Pitching Coach of Twins Oosterhout, but also appeared in five regular season-games and once in the postseason.
He also made one start last year, throwing four innings in a 7-2 loss against Curaçao Neptunus.
Today, Koeiman threw 2 1/3 inning and gave up twelve basehits and fourteen runs.
With his appearance today, Elton Koeiman, who turns 50 on May 8, has now played in 26 different seasons in the highest Dutch league in four decades for seven clubs.
Pirates opened the score with a 7-run rally in the top of the first inning.
Lead-off hitter Roelie Henrique reached on an error, advanced on a single by Duco Nuijten and a flyout by Denzel Richardson.
After Nuijten had stolen second base, both score on a double by Alex Madera, who last season played for Quick.
Kenny Berkenbosch then walked and Oliver van der Wijst Severino followed with a runscoring single.
The bases got loaded when Jorrit Penseel also singled.
All three runners scored when a throwing error followed an RBI-single by rookie Ilyas van den Bos.
He later scored the seventh run on a sacrifice fly by Jason Jakobus, the ninth batter in this at bat.
Two more runs were added in the second inning.
Duco Nuijten led off with a single and scored when Denzel Richardson hit his second homerun of the season.
In the third inning, Pirates again batted around and this time, six runs were scored.
With one out, the bases got loaded via Jason Jakobus (single), Roelie Henrique (walk) and Duco Nuijten (single).
Denzel Richardson added an RBI-single, which kept the bases loaded.
Hereafter, Alex Madera hit the ball over the leftfield-fence for a grand slam homerun, which was the offensive highlight in today's game.
That ended the stay on the mound for Elton Koeiman, who was relieved by debuting Sven Bakker.
The rookie walked Kenny Berkenbosch, who later scored on a 2-out single by Jorrit Penseel.
A 5-run rally followed in the fourth inning.
Bakker walked Jason Jakobus and Roelie Henrique, then gave up a runscoring single to Jules Cremer and got the bases loaded when he walked Denzel Richardson.
That was followed by an RBI-single by Alex Madera, who batted in his seventh run with this basehit.
The first out was then recorded when Cremer was eliminated on a force play-grounder by Kenny Berkenbosch.
The next run was scored on a single by Oliver van der Wijst.
With the bases still loaded, Riley Gonesh became the new Quick-pitcher.
He was greeted with a runscoring single by Jorrit Penseel.
With two outs, Pirates scored its twentieth run today on a basesloaded walk for Jason Jakobus.
Gonesh then held Pirates scoreless in the next two innings, but gave up the 21st run in the top of the seventh.
Luca van Gorkum then led off with a walk and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Kenny Berkenbosch.
