Nederlands
HOOFDDORP / HEEMSTEDE / VLEUTEN / OOSTERHOUT / ROTTERDAM (Neth.) -
Almost all scheduled exhibition-games on Sunday (March 24) involving big league-teams were cancelled due to the field-conditions after rain overnight.
Or due to cold conditions.
All to avoid injuries.
Only one game was partly played.
All four remaining games of the Ringvaart Tournament in Heemstede and all three remaining games of the Frans van Elst Tournament in Vleuten were cancelled.
In Hoofddorp, the game between Hoofddorp Pioniers and Quick Amersfoort was scrubbed.
And in Oosterhout, the double-header between Oosterhout Twins and its second team also was cancelled due to the weather conditions.
After it became clear that the field of UVV in Vleuten would not be playable for the remaining games of the Frans van Elst Tournament, Curaçao Neptunus and Hamburg Stealers decided to move their scheduled game to Rotterdam in the afternoon.
And so, the two teams, accompanied by Umpires John Beltman and Niek Elshof tranfered from Vleuten to the site of Neptunus.
There, six innings could be played, before the game was halted due to rain.
Neptunus won with a 6-4 score.
Coming Tuesday-evening, an additional game has been scheduled, as Amsterdam Pirates then will host DSS/Kinheim.
Coming Thursday-evening, Quick Amersfoort will host First Division-team Jeka.
Coming weekend, Hoofddorp Pioniers organizes its second edition of the international Frank Maduro Tournament.
Pioniers will participate with its main-squad and second team.
They will be joined by Quick Amersfoort, Storks (First Division), Hoboken Pioneers (Belgium), Hamburg Stealers and Paderborn Untouchables (both Germany).
RCH-Pinguïns will participate in the international J.C.J. Mastenbroek Tournament, organized by Tex Town Tigers in Enschede.
Other participating teams are Bears, Onze Gezellen, Sparks Haarlem and Zürich Barracudas (Switzerland).
Amsterdam Pirates and Oosterhout Twins will travel to Belgium to participate in the international Johan Veraghtert Tournament at the sites of Borgerhout Squirrels and Deurne Spartans.
Also participating are Brasschaat Braves (Belgium) and Cologne Cardinals (Germany).
HCAW travels to Bonn in Germany for a training-camp and two games against Bonn Capitals.
DSS/Kinheim and Curaçao Neptunus will play a double-header on Saturday in Haarlem.
The regular season in the Dutch big league opens on Thursday-evening, April 11.
