Game 5 - June 30 - Mexico vs. Netherlands
The game against Mexico was one quickly to be forgotten, as the Dutch Team never was able to something back.
The team batted only one basehit and gave up ten runs in the second inning in the game that lasted only 3½ inning due to the 10-run difference mercy-rule.
Initially, the game started well.
Randy Reiph became the first baserunner, as he led off with a walk for the Dutch in the first at bat.
He advanced on a wild pitch with one out, but then was left behind.
In the bottom of the first inning, Dutch starter Jeroen Mulder retired the side.
An inning later, the game was played, as Mexico had rallied for ten runs.
Mexico collected seven basehits in the second inning, including two homeruns.
With one out, Marco Gonzalez hit a 3-run homerun.
Hereafter, Arjan Baanen took over the pitching from Mulder.
He gave up three consecutive singles that loaded the bases, then followed with a strikeout.
An error then acccounted for two runs and a walk re-loaded the bases.
Next, another walk followed to bring in a run and then Erick Ochoa drilled a grand slam homerun to give Mexico a commanding 10-0 lead.
Mexico added two more runs in the third inning on three hits.
In the top of the fourth inning, with one out, Eldrick Dijkhoff hit what would be the lone Dutch basehit.
Herafter, Jaudiel Oldis took over the Mexican pitching and walked Angelo Arnold.
But a double play then ended the inning and the game.
