KNBSB-President Bob Bergkamp has to step down
NIEUWEGEIN (Neth.) - Bob Bergkamp, President of the Royal Dutch Baseball and Softball Association, will step down, the KNBSB announced today (November 21).

In a press release, it was stated that Bob Bergkamp much to his regret is forced to step down, as he is unable to combine the position with his busy job as Alderman in the Municipality of Breda. Bergkamp will preside his final board-meeting on Wednesday, December 3. Vice-Chairman Frits Mulder will act as interim-president thereafter.

The KNBSB now is preparing a procedure to fill in the vacant position of chairman. This will be discussed with the club council during its meeting on December 13.

Bob Bergkamp became Chairman of the KNBSB on March 27, 2010. Back then, he was one of the candidates, who were recommended by the then three-person interim-board, who had taken over in November 2009 after the previous board-members had stepped down.

In the past, Bergkamp was a well-respected baseball-umpire, officiating games in the Dutch big league for several years. He also became an international umpire and participated in several big international events. After retiring as an umpire, Bergkamp went into politics, but returned to the KNBSB four years ago to become its Chairman of the Board.
