ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - L&D Amsterdam on Sunday won 5-1 vs. MediaMonks RCH on Day 2 of the Hudson John Tournament. The day started with DOOR Neptunus winning 2-1 vs. Sparta/Feyenoord to become the tournament-winner. After completion of their game, Amsterdam faced Sparta/Feyenoord in their re-scheduled game, which rained out on Saturday.
Both teams scored in the first at bat. RCH opened when Nick Heij led off the game with a double, moved to third base when an one-out flyball to leftfield by Petr Baroch was missed and scored on a grounder by Jakub Malik.
Amsterdam equaled the score in their first. Björn Henrichs led off with a single, advanced on a sac-bunt by Maikel Benner, stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Murphy, who faced his former team. Last season, Murphy made his debut in the Dutch big league, while playing for RCH, where he had a fine season.
After two scoreless innings, Amsterdam re-took the lead in the fourth inning.
With two outs and Zaïr Koeiman (fielder's choice) on first base, Roy Harteveld doubled to give Pirates a 2-1 lead.
Two runs were added in the fifth inning off new pitcher Marek Deska, who took over in this at bat for starter Jean-Paul Gulinck.
With two outs, Sidney de Jong reached on an infield-hit, then Deska loaded the bases by walking Ryan Murphy and Fausto Álvarez Rizo.
Bas de Jong then followed with a 2-run single to make it 4-1, before the inning ended with a force play-grounder.
In the sixth inning, Roy Harteveld led off with his third basehit of the game, but later was eliminated in an inning-ending double play.
Amsterdam then did add another run in the seventh off Joran Klarenbeek, who pitched the last inning for RCH.
With one out, Sidney de Jong singled and advanced on a wild pitch, then scored on a 2-out double by Fausto Álvarez Rizo.
With the score tied at 1-1, RCH got a chance of scoring in the second inning, but stranded two runners.
Floris Morang reached on an error and Maarten Bos walked with one out, but two grounders then ended the at bat.
Amsterdam-starter Kenny Berkenbosch then retired 12 of the next 14 batters and saw only one runner reach second base, which happened in the sixth inning when former Pirate Ferd van Stekelenburg double with two outs.
Mark Kan took over in the seventh inning, walked lead-off hitter and pinch-hitter Jim Leijenaar, but then three outs followed.
