Sparks Haarlem wins big vs. Juniors
Nederlands
HAARLEM (Neth.) - After registering two shutout-wins on Saturday, Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem on Sunday won big twice vs. the Dutch Junior Team, which is participating for the third consecutive season in the Dutch big league. Sparks Haarlem won 11-1 and 15-0 and needed only 6 1/2 inning to do so and lift their record to 4-0.

The Juniors did open the score in the first inning of the opener. While four batters reached base, the team scored only once. Kimberly Jones led off with a walk off starter Kirsten Scheele, then Gabi Obia singled. A strikeout followed, but then the two runners advanced on a passed ball. The second out was then registered when Jones was eliminated at the plate trying to score on a grounder to third by Maxime van Dalen. But then an error was made on a short grounder in front of the catcher by Dominique Sprengers that enabled Obia to score the first run. A strikeout ended the at bat and this would the lone run of the day for the Juniors, which would add only one more basehit, a lead-off single by Dominique Sprengers in the fourth inning.

Sparks Haarlem reacted with two runs off Lueji Petchkovsky Morais. She hit lead-off hitter Chantal Versluis with a pitch, then gave up a 2-run homerun to Nathalie Gosewehr that gave the home team the lead.

Sparks Haarlem was then held scoreless in the second inning, but scored three runs in the third at bat. Areke Spel walked and scored on an one-out single by Virginie Anneveld, then Shannah van der Kaaij added an RBI-double and Beau van Gelder followed with a runscoring single to make it 5-1.

The 10-run difference was reached in the fourth inning when six runs were added. First, Chantal Versluis scored on a wild pitch. With one out, Karin Tuk, Virginie Anneveld and Shannah van der Kaaij all singled to bring in two more runs. After a pitching change, an error followed on a fly by Beau van Gelder, resulting in another run. A single by Silea Bos and grounder by Celine van Roon then lifted the lead to 11-1 to end the game.

In Game 2, Rebecca Soumeru struckout six and gave up only one basehit, a lead-off single in the second by Dominique Sprengers, who also had singled in the first game. Noëmie Brandjes was the only other baserunner for the Juniors after walking with two outs in the first inning.

Sparks Haarlem decided the game by scoring 12 runs in the first at bat. Only two runs were earned, as the Junior-defense committed four errors. Chantal Versluis led off with a walk, stole second and third base, then opened the score when Nathalie Gosewehr followed with a double. Later in the inning, Gosewehr also added a 2-run single. Also in the at bat, Shannah van der Kaaij and Debby Connor singled in a run, while Virginie Anneveld had an RBI-double. Two runs were scored following errors and two more on a wild pitch. After a pitching change and with Sparks leading 10-0, Michelle van Driel and Beau van Gelder added RBI-singles to make it 12-0.

In the second inning, the home team scored three runs. With one out, Chantal Versluis tripled and scored on a passed ball. Next, Nathalie Gosewehr (who was 3-for-3) singled and scored on the second double this game by Virginie Anneveld. Another pitching change followed, but a single by Debby Connor led to the next run and made it 15-0.
