Second win for Dutch Juniors
Nederlands
VLEUTEN (Neth.) - The Dutch Junior Team shutout UVV 4-0 in the second game of their double-header and failed to win both games. In the opener, the national junior-team led 7-2 in the fifth inning, but eventually lost 9-7. For the Juniors, this was their second win of the season after having won surprisingly vs. Hotel Ambassador c.c. Terrasvogels earlier.

The Junior-squad was off to a good start in the first game, scoring five runs in the first at bat off Vendy Draha. Lisa Waasdorp led off with a walk, then advanced when an error was made on a sac-bunt by Lynn Dollekamp. Both scored when Sophie Bugter followed with a single. With two outs, Cindy van der Zanden walked, then Noëmie Brandjes brought in the two runners with a single and went on to score herself when an error was made on a grounder by Ilona Marcelis, who was added for today's double-header from the Junior White Team.

UVV got two runs back off starter Svenja de Lincel. With one out, Nikki Harte singled and Kayleigh Adelina walked, then both scored on a double by Kelly Platvoet, who stranded on third base.

The Orange added a run in the second inning when Lisa Waasdorp led off with a bunt-single and scored on a 2-out single by Maxime van Dalen. After leaving the bases loaded in the fourth inning, the lead was lifted to 7-2 in the fifth at bat. Ilona Marcelis then singled with one out and scored on an error.

But in the home of the fifth inning, the Juniors led the game slip out of their hands when UVV scored six runs, without hitting a basehit, as the defense commited four errors. The bases were loaded on two walks and an error, then a run was scored when Kelly Platvoet walked. Hereafter, the pitching was taken over by Lizzie Clarijs, who also was an addition from the Junior White Team. Three errors then followed, leading to three runs and a 7-6 score. A grounder by Cintia de Groodt then tied the score and a sac-fly by Ylaine van de Hove gave UVV an 8-7 lead.

In the sixth inning, the home team added another run when Laura Arp led off with a single, stole second base and scored on a single by Kayleigh Adelina.

In Game 2, Lueji Petchkovsky Morais went the distance for the Juniors and gave up only two basehits. In the fourth inning, Kayleigh Adelina led off with a single and in the seventh, Laura Arp singled with two outs for UVV, which left four runners at third base and had the bases loaded in the fourth inning.

The Juniors scored all their runs in the third inning off Brenna Sandberg. Beau van Gelder led off with a walk, then two outs followed, but then Manoa Weijgertse also walked. Next, Maxime van Dalen singled to bring in the first run. The bases then got loaded when Eva van Knegsel was hit by a pitch and Noëmie Brandjes then followed with a 2-run single. Sophie Bugter then also singled to make it 4-0.

The Juniors left runners on first and second base in the fourth, runners on second and third in the fifth and the bases loaded in the sixth. But nevertheless, this time the young squad held onto the lead and registered its second win of the season.
