Femke van Dusschoten also heading for Italy
Nederlands
ALKMAAR (Neth.) - Pitcher Femke van Dusschoten also will be playing softball in Italy in 2013. The righthander, who played for Dutch champion Alcmaria Victrix, confirmed she will play for Rhibo La Loggia in the Italian Softball League. She will be joined there by catcher Anne Blaauwgeers, who also was her teammate with Alcmaria Victrix and the Dutch National Softball Team.

Like the transfer of Anne Blaauwgeers, the possibility of Femke van Dusschoten to play in Italy in 2013 already was rumored since the end of the season. In October, National Team-pitcher Dagmar Bloeming and catcher Nathalie Timmermans (who both played for Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem) confirmed that they will play for DES Caserta in Italy in the upcoming season. With the addition of outfielder Saskia Kosterink, who will return for her fourth season to play with Sanotint Bollate, this makes five Dutch players (all of the National Team), who will play in Italy in 2013.

A few years ago, Lucične Geels, Anouk Mels, Rebecca Soumeru, Daisy de Peinder and Sandra Gouverneur also have played in Italy. In more recent years, Nathalie Gosewehr (2011), Linda Hoenderdos (2011) and Lindsey Meadows (2011-2012) played in the Italians league.

In the 2012 season, Femke van Dusschoten was 12-6 with an 1.55 ERA. She struckout 151 batters in 113 innings, while walking only 28. Besides Femke van Dusschoten and Anne Blaauwgeers, Alcmaria Victrix (which won the Dutch championship for the first time in history) also has to do without Malou van Dusschoten, who will play for Hotel Ambassador c.c. Terrasvogels in 2013. This means that the team from Alkmaar now only has Canadian Ashley Lanz and Jessie van Aalst on its roster as pitchers.

In 2012, La Loggia finished in second place in the regular season behind league-leader Caserta. The team was then eliminated in the Play-Offs by Bollate, as the team was swept in three games. Caserta went on to defeat Bollate 3-2 in the best-of-five final.
