Rebecca Soumeru wins 20th game in record-setting double-header
Nederlands
VLEUTEN / DE BILT / ALKMAAR (Neth.) - Rebecca Soumeru won her 20th game of the season on Saturday in a 9-0 shutout vs. UVV, which was Game 2 of the double-header league-leader Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem played today. Game 1 was won, 11-1. Besides the accomplishment of Soumeru, more records were set or improved on Saturday, while personal milestones also were reached.

Hotel Ambassador c.c. Terrasvogels outscored Centrals, 13-1 and 7-0, while Alcmaria Victrix won twice vs. Gryphons, 10-3 and 6-2.

Rebecca Soumeru became the first 20-game winner in the Dutch big league since 2008. In that year, Lindsey Meadows won 26 games while pitching for Tex Town Tigers, which then won the Dutch Championship-title. A few weeks ago, Tex Town Tigers relegated from the big league. The record for most victories in a season is 35, which was set in 1986 by Caroline Fris, pitching for Bloemendaal.

It marks the first time that Rebecca Soumeru is a 20-game winner. Her previous high was 19, which she accomplished in 2005. She becomes the first pitcher in the history of Sparks Haarlem to win 20 games. When looking back to Sparks Haarlem's predecessor HHC, Soumeru (who is 20-0) becomes the first 20-game winner of the club since 1988 when Fredy van Offeren won 20.

Kirsten Scheele won her 18th game of the season to improve her career-best. Scheele, who is 18-2, career-high before this season was 14, which she accomplished in 2006 and last season.

In the double-header against UVV, Chantal Versluis stole five more bases to break her own big league-season record and to become the first player in history with 40 or more stolen bases. In the opener, she stole two bases to even her record, then added three more in the second game to set a new one. She now has stolen 42 bases, breaking the record of 39 she set in 2010. Since that season, Versluis has stolen 142 bases in four seasons.

In the opener of the double-header, Karin Tuk also reached two milestones. In the first inning, she hit a 2-run homerun to become the first player in history with 10 homeruns and she also became the first player in history with 60 runs batted in. Last season, she was one of three players that evened the all-time homerun record of seven. Ashli Holland (Terrasvogels), Courtney Bures (Olympia Haarlem) and Karin Tuk all reached the mark of seven homeruns. But Bures and Tuk went on to break the record and finished the season with nine. With her homerun in Game 1, Karin Tuk batted in her 60th and 61st run of the season. She added another one later in the game. Last year, Debby Connor (Sparks Haarlem) had set a new record with 45.

Leigh Godfrey scored four runs in the double-header and now leads the league with 55. This is only one run behind the all-time record, set last year by teammate Nathalie Gosewehr.

Two pitchers of Hotel Ambassador c.c. Terrasvogels reached personal milestones on Saturday. Ginger de Weert won her 14th game of the season, which is a career high after winning 13 last year, while Malou van Dusschoten became a 10-game winner for the first time in her career.
