The separation occured after last weekend's double 3-2 loss at Roef!, then was discussed within the Technical Committee of the club on Wednesday-evening. The statement continues that ''Ton was unable to fully combine his coaching task and responsibilities with his regular work and personal circumstances. As the team was suffering from this, Ton decided to step down, but offered to remain active for Amsterdam Pirates, when needed, for practice sessions or to assist coaches in general.''

Rob Korpel, who was the Assistant Coach, was asked to take over as the new Head Coach per May 9 and accepted the new position after discussing the situation. With this, the position of Assistant Coach became vacant. Several options are currently being looked into, but as of May 9, Johan Korpel will fill in as Assistant Coach. He is the brother of Rob Korpel and is currenly also the Coach of the Euro Stars-2 team. As this teams plays its games on Friday's or Sunday's, he is able to combine this with the coaching of Pirates.

Johan Korpel is one of only a few players, whose first basehit in the Dutch big league baseball was a homerun. Rob Korpel has been the Head Coach of the women softball-team of Robur '58 when it played in the Dutch big league. Last year, he assisted Ton van Koeverden, who was then in his first season with Amsterdam Pirates.

In their first season in Amsterdam, Pirates finished in third place in the second highest league (Overgangsklasse). Today, the Korpel-brothers made their debut as new coaches of Amsterdam Pirates and won twice against DVH, 6-2 and 9-2. Under Van Koeverden's coaching, Pirates was 5-3.
