Dutch Juniors win first game
Nederlands
DE BILT (Neth.) - The Dutch Junior Softball Team registered its first win of the season on Sunday, winning with a convincing 7-1 score in Game 2 of its double-header at Centrals. The opener ended in a 5-3 win for Centrals, which trailed twice. This is the fourth season that the Dutch Juniors are participating in the highest league as a team.

In the opener, the Juniors ('Jong Oranje') also had a chance to win. The team led 2-0 after the first inning and 3-2 in the third. But both times, Centrals erased the deficit and decided the game in the fifth inning.

In the first inning, the Dutch Team scored twice. With one out, Wies Ligtvoet was hit by a pitch and Manoa Weijgertse walked. Dominique Sprengers followed with a triple to put the Juniors ahead, 2-0.

Centrals came alongside in the second inning. Kayleigh Adelina reached on an error with one out, then Nicolette van Reem was hit by a pitch with two outs. A walk for Puck van der Kolk loaded the bases, then a single by Laura van Essen equaled the score.

The Dutch Juniors re-took the lead in the third inning when Wies Ligtvoet (fielder's choice) scored on a double by Dominique Sprengers. In the bottom of the third, Centrals tied the score for the second time on a single by Nikki Harte, then scored twice in the fifth inning and held the lead from that moment on. A fly by Richelle van Gennip and a wild pitch then accounted for the runs and the victory.

In the second game, the roles were reversed. From the second inning on 'Jong Oranje' erased an 1-0 deficit and played a good game.

Centrals opened the score in the first inning on a triple by Richelle van Gennip, but the Juniors came alongside in the second at bat. Dominique Sprengers led off with a single and advanced to third base on a wild pitch, then scored the tying run when Lizzie Clarijs followed with a triple.

In the third inning, the Juniors took the lead. Brenda Beers began with a single and completed her round across the bases when a throwing error ended up in rightfield.

Centrals left the bases loaded in the bottom of the third, then the Juniors added a run in the fourth inning. Gabi Obia led off with a walk and Denice van Dijk followed with a single, leading to a pitching change. Richelle van Gennip took over, began with a strikeout, but then saw an error being made on a grounder by Rachel van Veen. Obia tried to score, but was eliminated at the plate. Next, Van Dijk was able to score on a wild pitch.

In the fifth inning, Dominique Sprengers hit her second triple of the day, but was left behind. In the seventh inning, the Juniors decided the game by scoring four runs on five hits. Rachel van Veen reached on an error, then moved on a sac-bunt by Brenda Beers, who also reached safely. A sac-bunt by Jessica Waasdorp put the runners into scoring position, then an infield-hit by Manoa Weijgertse loaded the bases. Dominique Sprengers followed with a 2-run single, as did Gabi Obia moments later.

Centrals hit only six basehits in the second game. Three of them were hit off of Quincey Catsburg, who threw the first two innings. Ilona Andringa took over the pitching in the third, struckout three, gave up three hits and became the first winning pitcher of the season for the Juniors.
