Surprise win Centrals vs. Terrasvogels; No-Hitter Meadows
Nederlands
DE BILT / ENSCHEDE / ALKMAAR / VLEUTEN (Neth.) - On Saturday, Centrals surprised with a come-from-behind 2-1 win vs. Hotel Ambassador c.c. Terrasvogels, scoring the winning run in the seventh inning. Terrasvogels then won Game 2 with a 6-2 score.

Lindsey Meadows threw a No-Hitter in the opener of FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem at Tex Town Tigers. Olympia won the game 19-0, thanks to a huge 15-run rally in the sixth inning. Game 2 was won, 9-1.

Sandra Gouverneur made her comeback in the big league, playing in two games for Alcmaria Victrix in a split against Gryphons. Alcmaria lost the opener 8-1, then won the next game with a 7-0 shutout.

Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem won twice against UVV to become the lone unbeaten team. Game 1 was won with a small 3-0 score, then the next game ended in an 8-0 score.

Centrals vs. Hotel Ambassador c.c. Terrsvogels
At De Bilt, Hotel Ambassador c.c. Terrasvogels took an 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opener vs. Centrals. While Terrasvogels left five runners in scoring position, the minimal lead appears to be enough. But in the home of the seventh inning, Centrals came alongside and won 2-1. Terrasvogels won the next game with a 6-2 score.

In the opener, Petra van Heijst led off for Terasvogels with a single and moved when an outfield-error followed. She advanced on a grounder by Cheryl Hiele, then scored when a hit by Anouk van den Heuvel with two outs was dropped in the outfield. After the outfield-error, Kate Gentile walked, but then a line drive by Yonina Sint Jago ended the inning. For Terrasvogels, this remained the lone run in the game, as the hits to move runners around didn't came.

In the fourth inning, Terrasvogels got the bases loaded. Kate Gentile walked with one out, then Marije Schoenmaker singled with two outs and Myrthe Smid walked to load the bases. A foul-popfly then left the bases loaded. In the fifth inning, Solange Starrenburg tripled with two outs, but was left behind. And in the seventh inning, Marisèla de Wind singled with two outs, but then stranded on second base.

Pitcher Ginger de Weert held Centrals to only three hits in six innings. The fifth inning was the lone one in which Centrals got two baserunners. Richelle van Gennip then led off with a single and Kayleigh Adelina followed with a double. But then, De Weert struckout the next three hitters.

In the seventh inning, lead-off hitter Nikki Harte reached on an error and advanced on sac-bunt by Richelle van Gennip. Moments later, Kayleigh Adelina (who was 3-for-3) singled to bring in the tying run. Stephanie Ruiter then also singled and the two runners advanced on a grounder by Laura van Essen. Hereafter, rookie Nicolette van Reem singled through the left-side of the infield to bring in the winning run.

The game also had a scary moment when Centrals' 2B Alma Hooi was hit in her face by the ball after a bad-hop single in the sixth inning. Luckily, she sustained no injuries, but she left the game. Out of precaution, she didn't play the second inning and was coaching at first base instead.

In Game 2, which lasted two hours and 16 minutes, Terrasvogels initially trailed 1-0 after the first inning, but won 6-2. An error trying to complete a double play led to a run for Centrals in the first at bat, but Terrasvogels then came alongside in the second inning. Anouk van den Heuvel then led off with a single and scored on a 2-out single by Cheryl Hiele.

A 4-run rally followed in the third inning. With one out, Solange Starrenburg singled and scored on a double by Kate Gentile, which was followed by an RBI-triple by Yonina Sint Jago. A single by Anouk van den Heuvel (who was 4-for-4) then led to the next run. After next hitter Myrthe Smid walked, a single by Marije Schoenmaker lifted the lead to 5-1.

Centrals got one run back in the fifth inning when Laura van Essen led off with a triple and scored on a following double by Stephanie Ruiter. Terrasvogels then made it 6-2 by adding a run in the sixth when Cheryl Hiele led off with a single and went on to score on a double by Marisèla de Wind.

Tex Town Tigers vs. FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem
At Enschede, Lindsey Meadows threw a No-Hitter in the opener of FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem at Tex Town Tigers. Olympia won the game 19-0, thanks to a huge 15-run rally in the sixth inning. Game 2 was won, 9-1.

In the opener, Lindsey Meadows struckout eight batters in six innings. Only two players of Tex Town Tigers reached base. Annemiek Jansen (first inning) and Isa Los (fifth inning) via an error. The first was the lone player to reach base twice, as she was hit by a pitch in the sixth at bat.

After four innings, Olympia Haarlem led only 4-0. The score was opened in the second inning when Dinet Oosting doubled and scored on a single by Dominique Sprengers. Two runs were added in the third inning. Marit Molenaar led off with a single and scored on a 2-out single by Lindsey Meadows, who then scored herself on a triple by Dinet Oosting. In the fourth, Laura Burggraaf led off with a single and scored the fourth run on a sac-fly by Merel Oosterveld.

Hereafter, a record-setting sixth inning followed in which Olympia Haarlem scored 15 runs on 10 basehits and five errors. A record-setting total of 20 players batted in this inning, with Lisette Untied stepping up to the plate three times. Six players scored twice, while former TTT-players Merel Oosterveld (single, triple) and Lindsey Meadows (homerun, single) had two basehits. Oosterveld had four RBI's in the at bat, while Laura Burggraaf had three.

Lead-off hitter Lisette Untied was hit by a pitch, but was then forced out on a grounder by Maranca Ham. A single by Marit Molenaar followed, then a single by Merel Oosterveld produced the first of 15 runs in this rally. The next run was scored on a fielder's choice-grounder by Czech player Tereza Pochobradska, followed by a runscoring double-steal and a 2-run homerun by Lindsey Meadows. After a pitching change, 10 more runs were added, which were all unearned. The first three runs off of rookie Zoe Egberink were scored on errors, then Merel Oosterveld hit a 3-run triple. A grounder by Pochobradska, 2-run single by Burggraaf and single by Untied completed the rally and lifted the lead to 19-0.

In this game, Olympia collected 19 basehits, including three by Lindsey Meadows, who played in her first game against her former club, as did Merel Oosterveld, who had two basehits. Dinet Oosting was 4-for-5 and only missed the homerun for hitting-for-the-cycle.

In Game 2, Olympia Haarlem won 9-1 on 16 basehits, including again four by Dinet Oosting and three by Merel Oosterveld. Oosting was 8-for-10 in today's double-header to move into second place on the Best Hitter's list, trailing only Karin Tuk of Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem.

Tex Town Tigers took an 1-0 lead in the first inning off of Dominique Sprengers. Maaike Ogink led off with a walk, moved on a sac-bunt by Annemiek Jansen, then scored on a single by Nadine Marinus. But that was to be it for TTT, which added only one more basehit in the remainder of the game, which also was a single by Marinus in the third at bat.

In the third inning, Olympia Haarlem scored three runs. Merel Oosterveld led off with a single and Tereza Pochobradska walked, then both advanced on a wild pitch and scored when Lindsey Meados followed with a single. Dinet Oosting then also singled to make it 3-1.

In the fourth inning, a run scored on a sac-fly by Oosting, but then three runners were left behind in the fifth at bat. The next run was added in the sixth. With one out, Dinet Oosting and Dominique Sprengers singled, then the bases were loaded when Lisette Untied singled with two outs. Next, Maranca Ham also singled to bring in a run, but then three runners were left behind.

Leading 5-1, Olympia Haarlem staged a 4-run rally in the seventh inning. With one out, Tereza Pochobradska tripled and Lindsey Meadows was hit by a pitch. The two then scored when Dinet Oosting followed with a homerun. With two outs, Laura Burggraaf reached on an error and, after a pitching change, scored the final run on a double by Lisette Untied.

Alcmaria Victrix vs. Gryphons
At Alkmaar, Sandra Gouverneur made her comeback in the big league, playing in two games for Alcmaria Victrix in a split against Gryphons. Alcmaria lost the opener 8-1, then won the next game with a 7-0 shutout.

Due to some injuries and a very small roster, Alcmaria Victrix already added several players from its second and third team for the the first four games of the season. Today, the squad added veteran player Sandra Gouverneur, who played her last game in the big league in 2008. She then played in her lone season for Gryphons, which today was the opponent of Alcmaria Victrix. Before coming to Gryphons, Gouverneur played in 12 seasons for Terrasvogels and one for Nuoro in Italy. Alcmaria Victrix had only nine active players on its roster today, with Head Coach Gonny Farley being the lone substitute player. And that led to a humorous situation, as Gonny Farley, now listed as a player, was the one randomly picked to do the test on behalf of Alcmaria for a doping control.

In the opener, the score was tied at 1-1 after two innings. Gryphons opened the score in the first inning when Kim Donkers led off with a single and Fabienne van Uden followed with a triple. The latter was later eliminated at the plate trying to score on a grounder to short. Alcmaria came alongside in the second inning. With one out, Laura Treurniet doubled and advanced on a wild pitch with two outs. Sandra Gouverneur then walked, followed by a passed ball that enabled Treurniet to score the tying run.

Gryphons then broke the 1-1 tie by scoring seven runs in the fifth to end the game with a 7-run difference. Monique Melissant led off with a bunt-single, then Fabienne van Uden reached on an error with one out. Next, a bunt single-by Claudia Kranendonk loaded the bases. Gryphons then re-took the lead on a 2-run double by Mariëlle Vleugels, followed by a 2-run single by Kiki Draaijer. The next run was then scored when a hit by Cindy van der Zanden ended in an error with two outs. After a pitching change, Emily Wiemken walked, a wild pitch moved the two runners, who then scored on a 2-run single by Monique Melissant, her second basehit in this inning.

In Game 2, Alcmaria outhit Gryphons 14-3 and registered a 7-0 shutout. Maaike Blaauwgeers contributed with three basehits and Jessie van Aalst had four runs batted in.

Gryphons left two runners in the first inning, then Alcmaria answered with two runs in the home of the first. Suzanne Meiring led off with a single and Maaike Blaauwgeers reached on an error, which put runners on first and third base. A sac-bunt by Raina Hunter then brought in the first run, followed by a 2-out single by Laura Treurniet.

Alcmaria added a run in the third on a single by Jessie van Aalst, who also batted in the next run in the fourth inning via a basesloaded walk, but the team also left the bases loaded.

The final runs were scored in the sixth inning and again, it was Jessie van Aalst, who contributed, this time with a 2-run single. The bases then got loaded when Laura Treurniet singled and Sophie Bugter walked. A 2-out single by Brenda Beers then brought in Van Aalst to end the game with the 7-run difference mercy-rule. With this, Van Aalst accounted for five of the seven runs in this game.

UVV vs. Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem
At Vleuten, Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem won twice against UVV to become the lone unbeaten team. Game 1 was won with a small 3-0 score, then the next game ended in an 8-0 score.

In the opener, Kirsten Scheele threw a 4-hit shutout. Like Hotel Ambassador c.c. Terrasvogels in its opener against Centrals, Sparks Haarlem scored once in the first inning thanks to an error and led only 1-0 after six innings. But Sparks Haarlem then enlarged the lead by adding two runs in the top of the seventh inning to secure the small victory.

With two outs, Nathalie Gosewehr walked in the first inning and stole second, then scored when an error was made trying to complete a strikeout on Debby Connor.

In the next four innings, Sparks Haarlem added only four more basehits, while UVV did the same. Both teams got scoring opportunities in this span. In the second inning, Karin Tuk and Shannah van der Kaaij led off with singles, but then the next three batters were struckout by Canadian pitcher Lacey Dinney. In the third and fourth inning, Leigh Godfrey and Karin Tuk led off with singles, respectively, but no runs were added. UVV got a scoring chance in the third at bat. with one out, Kirsten Vierdag singled in her first game for UVV. When the season began, she was listed on the roster of Tex Town Tigers, but recently, she transfered to UVV. With two outs, Laura Arp also singled, but the two runners stranded. In the fourth, Stephanie Reid led off with a triple, but was eliminated at home trying to score on an one-out grounder to second base. Cintia de Groodt then also singled, but UVV failed to tie the score.

Sparks Haarlem then decided the game by adding two insurance runs in the seventh inning, which also were two unearned runs. Lead-off hitter Shannah van der Kaaij reached on an error and moved on a sac-bunt by Michelle van Driel. With two outs, she advanced to third base on a wild pitch, then Chantal Versluis walked and stole second base. The two runners then scored on a single by Leigh Godfrey.

In Game 2, Rebecca Soumeru threw a 3-hit shutout. Sparks Haarlem again opened the score with a run run the first inning in the same situation and with the same players involved as in the opener. Nathalie Gosewehr walked with two outs, stole second base and scored on a single by Debby Connor.

This time, Sparks Haarlem didn't wait until the last inning, but now scored six runs in the third at bat. With one out, Leigh Godfrey and Nathalie Gosewehr singled, then an error on a force play-grounder by Debby Connor loaded the bases. A walk for Areke Spel then produced a run, followed by a 2-run single by Karin Tuk, who became the leading hitter in the league after today's games. Shannah van der Kaaij (2-run) and Michelle van Driel (one-run) then followed with back-to-back triples to make it 7-0.

The final run was scored in the fourth at bat on a triple by Areke Spel.

With one out in the first inning, winning pitcher Rebecca Soumeru gave up a single to Mirjam Boode, but then retired the next eleven batters in a row. In the fifth inning, Edith Riemsdijk led off with a double and Cintia de Groodt followed with a single, but then the next three batters struckout.
