Game 2
In the second game today, Roef! outhit UVV 11-8, including three more basehits by Wies Ligtvoet.
But UVV struck early, scoring six runs in the first three innings to take a decisive lead.
Roef! managed to come back, but UVV held on to the lead.
The visiting team opened the score with three runs in the first inning.
Laura Arp led off with a single and Kirsten Vierdag walked with one out.
The bases got loaded when Helma Pluim walked with two outs.
Hereafter, Michelle van Gastel cleared the bases with a 3-run triple.
Roef! got one run back when Wies Ligtvoet led off with a walk and scored on a following double by Eva van Knegsel.
UVV expanded the lead to 6-1 by adding three more runs in the third inning off of new pitcher Janiska Franklin.
Kirsten Vierdag and Marleen van Gastel began with back-to-back doubles to bring in a run.
An error on a grounder by Helma Pluim then led to the next run.
With one out, Renske de Leeuw delivered a runscoring single to make it 6-1.
And while Roef! was able to do something back hereafter, UVV had taken a decisive lead.
Roef! scored its next run in the third inning.
Wies Ligtvoet then led off with a single and scored on a grounder by Naftely Pietersz.
Roef! narrowed the deficit to 6-4 in the fourth.
Nathalie Hosten and Sophie Mollee led off with back-to-back doubles to switch places on the bases and bring in a run.
The latter scored on a grounder by Ilse van Kerkoerle, but two runners stranded.
UVV took some distance by scoring twice in the sixth at bat.
Melissa Burger and Laura Arp both reached on errors.
After a walk for Naomi Andringa loaded the bases, a pitching change followed.
But then a hit batter for Kirsten Vierdag and walk for Marleen van Gastel lifted the lead to 8-4.
In the bottom of the sixth, Roef! held the suspense in the game by also scoring two runs.
Ennia Ballardini (fielder's choice) and Wies Ligtvoet (single) then respectively scored on a single by Eva van Knegsel and sac-fly by Naftely Pietersz.
But again, UVV took more distance when it also scored two runs in the seventh.
Renske de Leeuw and Bente Erkelens then both walked and Melissa Burger singled to load the bases.
With two outs, Kirsten Vierdag (who reached base four times) delivered a 2-run single to make it 10-6.
Roef! had one more run left in its seventh at bat.
Sophie Mollee then reached on an error with one out and scored on a 2-out single by Ennia Ballardini.
