Game 1
In the first game, HCAW initially opened the score with one run in the first inning.
With one out, Monique Melissant walked, stole second base, then scored on a 2-out single by Anouk Sassen.
But that would be it for HCAW, as the team was held scoreless in the next four innings by Denise Theulings, who pitched a fine game.
After giving up the single to Sassen, Theulings retired eight batters in a row.
In the fourth, she got runners on second and third base, but they stranded.
After having retired the side in the fifth, Theulings gave up the second HCAW-run in the sixth, but at that time, Zwijndrecht led 5-1.
Zwijndrecht came alongside in its first at bat.
Dayenne Sluijter led off with a walk and went on to score on a sacrifice fly by Michelle van Bodegom.
Zwijndrecht then took a 3-1 lead in the third inning.
Sanne Korpel led off with a walk, then Michelle van Bodegom doubled with one out.
Both runners then scored when Chantal Fehling singled with two outs.
The home team increased its lead to 5-1 by scoring two more runs in the fifth at bat.
Michelle van Bodegom led off with a walk, then scored all the way from first base when Claudia Kranendonk doubled.
The latter then advanced when an error followed on a grounder by Chantal Fehling and the bases got loaded when Nadine van der Loos walked.
A run was then scored on a grounder by Fleur Bos, who is one of six new players, who were added recently to the roster.
The new players are a welcome addition.
Shortly before the start of the season, Sophia Verhoeven got injured and might be out for some months.
And on April 23, Kyra van Genderen got injured in an exhibition game against Birds.
While batting, she was hit on her hand and sustained a tear in a knuckle of her right pinky.
Since then, her hand is in a plaster, so she will be out for awhile.
Trailing 5-1, HCAW scored its second run in the sixth inning.
Monique Melissant then led off with a bunt-single, advanced on a single by Ilona Marcels and scored on a single by Anouk Sassen.
A force play then followed and HCAW would strand two runners.
Zwijndrecht got the run back in the bottom of the sixth.
Michelle van Bodegom then walked with one out and went on to score her third run in the game on a 2-out double by Chantal Fehling.
