DSS and Talent Team Holland win against each other
Nederlands
HAARLEM (Neth.) - On a rainy Sunday (May 3), the Talent Team Holland won 5-3 in the opener of its double-header against DSS, which was left empty-handed on Saturday at Tex Town Tigers. The game started 45 minutes later due to rain.

DSS then rallied for four runs in the first inning of the second game to win 4-1.

Due to the weather conditions, this afternoon double-header ended almost at 9 PM, completing a long day at the field for everyone involved.

(May 3)

Game 1

When the opener started after a 45-minute rain-delay, the Talent Team Holland struck early, scoring a run in the first and second inning. DSS came alongside in the third and took the lead in the fourth, but then the Juniors rallied for three runs in the sixth to decide the game and win 5-3.

In the first inning, Brenda Beers singled with one out. After stealing second base, she scored when Rachel van Veen singled. Manoa Weijgertse then walked, but two runners were left behind.

The Talent Team doubled its lead in the second inning. With two outs, Wies Ligtvoet walked and stole second base, then scored on a single by Brenda Beers. But again two runners stranded, as was the case in the third inning.

DSS left two runners in the first at bat, then came alongside in the bottom of the third. With one out, Melissa de Greef walked and advanced on a wild pitch, then scored on a single by Judith van Tiel. With two outs, Denice van Dijk walked and this time, Annemiek de Rover followed with an RBI-single to tie the score. But DSS also left two runners behind.

After a 35-minute rain-delay in between the top and bottom of the fourth inning, DSS took a 3-2 lead when the game resumed. After two force outs at third base, DSS had runners on first and second base when Judith van Tiel delivered an RBI-single. A walk for Morgan Sampson loaded then bases, but a flyout then ended the at bat.

The Talent Team then scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to re-take the lead. Dervisa Mutic led off with a single and stole second base, then moved on a sac-bunt by Wies Ligtvoet. An error on a grounder by Damishah Charles then tied the score. Next, the Juniors took a 4-3 lead when Brenda Beers singled and an insurance run was added on a single by Manoa Weijgertse.

Roos-Marijn Kramer, who went the distance for the Talent Team, then allowed the first two batters to reach base in the seventh inning. She struckout the next batters, then was supported with a game-ending double play.

Game 2

The second game of today's double-header went underway at 6:50 PM. The game lasted one hour and 52 minutes, meaning that the double-header ended at 8:42 PM, completing a long and rainy day at the field! Including pre-game preparations, it took almost seven hours to play today's games! On a positive note, both games could be completed despite the rainy weather conditions. And that deserves a compliment for the players, coaches and staff-members of both teams, but of course also the game officials. And everyone else involved in today's games.

In Game 2, all runs were scored in the first inning.

The Talent Team took an 1-0 lead when Annemiek Jansen doubled with one out. She couldn't advance when a throwing error followed on a grounder by Rachel van Veen, but the two advanced via a double steal. A sacrifice bunt by Laura Wissink then brought in the run.

DSS reacted with a 4-run rally in its first at bat. Melissa de Greef led off with a single and advanced on a sac-bunt by Judith van Tiel and a wild pitch. Morgan Sampson then struckout, but the third strike ended in a wild pitch, which enabled De Greef to score the tying run. Next, Denice van Dijk walked, then Annemiek de Rover followed with a 2-run double to give DSS a 3-1 lead. Kelly Koeman then also doubled to make it 4-1.

In the remainder of the game, the Juniors added four more basehits. The team left runners on second and third base in the second and sixth inning.

DSS added only one more basehit, but reached base frequently as five batters walked and another one was hit by a pitch. DSS stranded seven runners in the remainder of the game, including the bases loaded in the fourth.
