Roef! & Twins outscore Gryphons in Brabant Cup

ROSMALEN (Neth.) -
On Saturday (April 4), three southern teams from the province of Noord-Brabant got together to play a 3-way series in the Brabant Cup.
Roef! and Twins traveled to Rosmalen to meet with Gryphons, but it wasn't the day for the home team, as it suffered two big losses.
In the opener, Roef! won 11-1 vs. Gryphons and in the final game, it was Twins that handed the host team a 15-1 loss.
In between, Roef! and Twins held each other in balance, as that game ended in a 7-7 tie.
For all three teams, today's event was the final preparation for the upcoming season in the Silver League, which opens next Saturday, April 11.
Roef! opens with a double-header on Saturday at Centrals in De Bilt, starting at 2 PM.
Gryphons opens on Saturday also on the road with a double-header in Bussum vs. HCAW, starting at 3 PM.
Twins opens at home in Oosterhout with a double-header vs. Euro Stars, starting at 3 PM.

Game 1 - Roef! vs. Gryphons
In today's first game, Roef! won big against host Gryphons.
Rain stopped a few moments before the start of the game, but then a 4-run rally in the third and a 6-run rally in the sixth contributed to the 11-1 victory.
Roef! collected 14 basehits, including three by Wies Ligtvoet and Ilse van Kerkoerle.
Gryphons-starter Emma Holden walked lead-off batter Wies Ligtvoet in the first inning, but then retired seven batters in a row.
Then, with one out in the third inning, Roef! rallied for four runs.
Ennia Ballardini then reached on an error and stole second base, followed by a single off the bat of Wies Ligtvoet.
Next, the lead runner beat the throw to home on a grounder by Eva van Knegsel to score the first run.
This was followed by an error and a passed ball, which led to the next two runs.
Naftely Pietersz then tripled and scored on a single by Charlotte Haen to make it 4-0.
Roef! added a run in the fifth inning off of new pitcher Lieke Kapteins.
Naftely Pietersz then led off on a single and went on to score on a 2-out triple by Ilse van Kerkoerle.
Trailing 5-0, Gryphons scored what would be its lone run in the sixth inning.
With two outs, Maureen van Poorten reached on a bunt-single, then moved to third base on two passed balls.
Moments later, she scored when Maruja Isbouts reached on an error.
Gryphons had left a runner in scoring postion in the third inning, then two more in the fourth inning.
The team left another runner on third base in the seventh.
After Gryphons had scored in the top of the sixth, Roef! reacted with a 6-run rally in the bottom of the sixth on seven basehits.
Gini Ketelaars led off with a double and Ennia Ballardini followed with a single.
A run was then scored when Wies Ligtvoet connected for her third basehit in the game.
With one out, the bases got loaded when Naftely Pietersz walked.
Charlotte Haen then delivered a 2-run double and Sophie Mollee followed with a 2-run single.
The latter then scored the eleventh run for Roef! on a single by Ilse van Kerkoerle.
New Zealand-pitcher Jasmin Kaiaruna started for Roef!
She retired the first eight batters she faced, then gave up a 2-out double to Julia van Oosterwijk, but a flyout ended the the at bat.
In the fourth, with two outs, Maruja Isbouts and Lieke Kapteins singled, but stranded.

Game 2 - Twins vs. Roef!
The fifth inning of this game saw nine runs being scored, but couldn't decide the outcome, as the meeting between Twins and Roef! ended in a 7-7 tie.
Twins led twice, but Roef! was able to come back both times.
Twins opened the score in the first inning.
With one out, Kate Geldof reached on an error and stole second base.
She then scored when Sandy Lauwers tripled with two outs.
After being retired in order in the next two innings, Twins doubled its lead in the fourth.
This time, Geldof led off with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Lieke Duffhues.
Roef! was held scoreless in the first four innings by starter Femke Duffhues.
The team from Moergestel left runners on second and third base in the second, while runners were left on first and third base in the fourth inning.
In between, a runner stranded on third base in the third at bat.
And so, Roef! had left four runners in scoring position and trailed 2-0.
Roef! then suddenly struck with four runs in the fifth inning off of new pitcher Sheila van der Tang.
With one out, Wies Ligtvoet reached second base on an error, then scored on a single by Eva van Knegsel.
The latter scored the tying run when next batter Naftely Pietersz also singled.
With two runs, Sophie Mollee walked, then the two runners both scored on a double by Nathalie Hosten to give Roef! a 4-2 lead.
Now trailing 4-2, Twins immediately reacted with a 5-run rally in the home half of the fifth at bat.
Noor Godefroy led off with a single, moved on a grounder by Shauni Thys and scored on a triple by Tammie Lijbers.
Twins then tied the score when Sheila van der Tang followed with a runscoring single.
The rally continued, as Mandy van Alebeek also singled.
A grounder moved the runners into scoring position, then an infield-hit by Kate Geldof gave Twins a renewed lead.
Twins loaded the bases when Lieke Duffhues walked and that led to a pitching change.
Gini Ketelaars took over for starter Marjolein Merkx, but was greeted with a 2-run single by Sandy Lauwers that made it 7-4 in favor of Twins.
But the game wasn't over yet, as Roef! had a productive at bat left.
The team scored three runs in the top of the sixth to make it a 7-7 tie.
Janiska Franklin led off with a single, then Wies Ligtvoet singled with one out.
Next, Eva van Knegsel drove the ball into leftfield for a 2-run triple.
Hereafter, Naftely Pietersz walked and while she was caught stealing in a rundown, Van Knegsel was able to score the tying run.

Game 3 - Gryphons vs. Twins
The day ended with another big score, as Twins won 15-1 vs. Gryphons.
Leading 2-0, Twins put the game totally out of reach for Gryphons when it rallied for 13 (!) runs in the third inning.
Twins collected 12 basehits off of three pitchers, including three by Femke Duffhues.
Tammie Lijbers doubled and tripled in this game.
Twins opened the score with two runs in the first inning.
Femke Duffhues led off with a bunt-single, then advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Kate Geldof and a grounder by her sister Lieke Duffhues.
With two outs, Sandy Lauwers doubled to bring in the first run, then scored herself moments later on a single by Noor Godefroy.
In the second inning, Tammie Lijbers doubled, but was thrown out at third base, then two outs followed.
And then, in the third at bat, Twins struck with a huge 13-run rally on eight basehits, including three triples.
It all began when Femke Duffhues led off with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kate Geldof.
Hereafter, the next 13 (!) consecutive batters reached base safely.
With Lieke Duffhues (error) and Sandy Lauwers (single) on base, Minke Blok hit a 2-run triple and scored on a following single by Noor Godefroy.
Next, Shauni Thys singled and then it was Tammie Lijbers who delivered a 2-run triple.
That led to a pitching change.
Sheila van der Tang was hit by a pitch, then Mandy van Alebeek singled in the next run.
The bases got loaded via an infield-hit by Femke Duffhues.
Two more runs were then added when Kate Geldof walked and Lieke Duffhues was hit by a pitch, which brought in another new pitcher.
Two force play-grounders ended in errors to bring in three more runs, then a passed ball accounted for the thirteenth run in this at bat.
In total, 17 batters stepped up to the plate, all ten batters in the batting order of Twins scored in this inning and Feme Duffhues had two basehits.
Sheila van der Tang started for Twins and threw two perfect innings, retired all six batters she faced.
Gryphons then scored its lone run in the bottom of the third inning off of Femke Duffhues.
Linda Hanegraaf led off with an infield-hit, then advanced on a wild pitch and scored when Manya Krijgsman followed with a double.
The latter was thrown out at third trying to stretch it into a triple.
In the fourth inning, Maruja Isbouts singled for Gryphons with two outs, but became the last baserunner for her team.
