Alcmaria Victrix eliminated for 1st place after double loss
Nederlands
ALKMAAR (Neth.) - FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem added two victories on Saturday (June 6). In Alkmaar, the team won 12-0 and 8-2 vs. Alcmaria Victrix. The first game ended with the mercy-rule after four innings.

Alcmaria Victrix is still winless this season, having lost all 18 games played so far. The team has 18 games left this season. Veteran pitcher Evelien de Rover, who last played in the big league in 2007 for DSC '74, was added to the roster recently. De Rover already played for Alcmaria Victrix in the big league in the late nineties and made her comeback in the team during last weekend's double-header vs. DSS.

After completion of today's double-header, Alcmaria Victrix became the first team to officially being eliminated for first place. In the new competition format, the team that finished in first place, automatically qualifies for the championship-weekend, which also has a new set-up this season. In the new set-up, the deciding best-of-five Holland Series is brought back to only one game.

(June 6)

Game 1

In the opener, Stephanie Tofft threw an one-hitter in a game that lasted four innings, due to the 10-run difference mercy-rule.

Olympia Haarlem collected 14 basehits in this game, including three by Eva Voortman and Dinet Oosting.

The Haarlem-team opened the score with two runs in the first inning. Eva Voortman and Dinet Oosting led off with singles. The two then performed a double steal, which was followed by a throwing error, leading to the first run. With one out, the second run was scored on a single by Mariëlle Vleugels.

A 4-run rally with two outs followed in the second at bat, thanks to a 2-run triple by Dinet Oosting, followed by a 2-run homerun by Stephanie Tofft.

Two more runs were added in the third inning. With one out, Stephanie Ruiter walked, then scored on a triple by Rachel van Veen, which led to a pitching change. A grounder by Brenda Beers then brought in the next run and lifted the lead to 8-0.

Another 4-run rally followed in the fourth to reach the 10-run difference. Maranca Ham led off with a single and Rosanne de Vries walked, then the two scored on a double by Dominique Sprengers to make it 10-0. A runscoring triple by Stephanie Ruiter and an error on a grounder by Cheska Ham then made it 12-0.

Stephanie Tofft walked a batter with two outs in the first inning, but then retired the next eight batters in a row. Her No-Hitter then ended when Alyssa Dronenburg singled with one out in the fourth inning. But a force out and strikeout then ended the game.

Game 2

In the second game, Olympia Haarlem again scored its first two runs in the first at bat. Eva Voortman led off with a single and scored on a 2-out single by Mariëlle Vleugels. The bases then got loaded when Rosanne de Vries reached on an error and Merel Oosterveld walked. A passed ball with the bases loaded resulted in the second run. A walk for Judith Buschman then loaded the bases again, but this time, the three runners stranded.

Alcmaria Victrix got one run back in the third at bat. With two outs, Katy Moore and Lisanne Spoor singled. As the second single was followed by an outfield-error, Moore was able to score.

After being held scoreless in three innings, Olympia Haarlem added three runs in the fifth to take more distance. Brenda Beers led off with a single, then stole second base with one out. She then scored on a single by Dinet Oosting, which was followed by an RBI-double by Stephanie Tofft. After a pitching change, another run was scored on a single by Mariëlle Vleugels to make it 5-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, Alcmaria was able to score another run. With one out, Katy Moore (who also scored the first run) walked, then advanced on a single by Lisanne Spoor. A following single by Quita Borst then narrowed the deficit to 5-2, but that was to be it for the home team.

Olympia Haarlem took more distance by scoring two runs in the sixth, thanks to a triple by Rachel van Veen and an error. A triple by Merel Oosterveld accounted for the eighth run for Olympia in the seventh at bat to make it 8-2.
