(June 6)

Game 1

The opening game today was a great pitching duel between Canadian Alana Westerhof (Tex Town Tigers) and American Krista Menke. Westerhof struckout ten batters and gave up only two basehits. Menke, who arrived a week ago, struckout 12 batters and gave up five hits.

The lone run in this game was scored by Tex Town Tigers in the seventh inning.

Before scoring the run, Tex Town Tigers got into scoring position only once. The team was retired in order by Krista Menke in the first at bat, but in the second inning, Lindsey Meadows led off with an infield-hit. As an error followed, she was able to advance to second base, but she stranded there.

In the third, Nadine Marinus singled with two outs and was left on first base. In the fourth, Annemiek Jansen led off with a single, but then eliminated in a double play.

Beginning with the double play, Menke retired nine batters in a row, including five strikeouts. In the seventh inning, with one out, Lindsey Meadows singled again. She then stole second base and scored when Laura Wissink doubled down the leftfield-line for what would be the only run in this attractive game. Two strikeouts followed, but the decision had fell.

DSS left five runners, including four in scoring position. In the third, Quincey Catsburg led off with a walk, moved on a sac-bunt and a wild pitch, but stranded on third base. In the fourth, Morgan Sampson led off with the first basehit for DSS and also advanced on a sac-bunt, then was left on second base.

In the fifth inning, DSS left another runner on third base. Lorraine Kieft led off with a walk, stole second base, then moved to third on a passed ball. But while she was a third base with no outs, she stranded, as Westerhof struckout the next three batters.

In the bottom of the seventh, Kelly Koeman led off with a single, then her pinch-runner Anouk in den Kleef moved to second base on a sac-bunt by Eva Halman. After a pop-fly accounted for the second out, Westerhof ended the game with her tenth strikeout.

Game 2

After winning only 1-0 in the opener, Tex Town Tigers won more convincingly in the second game. The Enschede-squad won 7-0 via the mercy-rule, while pitchers Lindsey Meadows and Cheyenne Scheffer threw a combined No-Hitter.

Tex Town Tigers scored its first run in the first at bat. Nadine Marinus led off with a single, moved on a grounder by Shaneequa Kock and a wild pitch, then scored on a 2-out single by Lindsey Meadows.

DSS-starter Quincey Catsburg then struckout the side in the second inning, but then saw TTT rally for five runs with two outs in the third at bat. With two outs and Shaneequa Kock (fielder's choice plus stolen base) on second base, Annemiek Jansen walked. Another single by Lindsey Meadows then doubled the lead and single by Laura Wissink loaded the bases. The bases were then cleared when Alana Westerhof followed with a 3-run triple. Moments later, she scored herself on an infield-hit by Italian Giorgia Fumagalli, who today made her debut in a TTT-uniform.

Tex Town Tigers left the bases loaded in the fourth inning, but reached the 7-run difference in the fifth at bat. Alana Westerhof led off with a walk and Giorgia Fumagalli singled, then Daniëlle ten Donkelaar delivered a runscoring single with one out to make it 7-0. With two outs, Shaneequa Kock also singled and Fumagalli then tried to score an insurance run, but was eliminated at the plate after a nice throw by rightfielder Anouk in den Kleef.

TTT-starter Lindsey Meadows retired the first eight batters she faced in a row. The righthander then walked Madelon Paauwe with two outs in the third, but a pop-fly ended the at bat.

Cheyenne Scheffer took over in the fourth and retired the side. She then walked Denice van Dijk with one out in the fifth, but a force out and groundout followed to end the game and complete the No-Hitter.
