Sparks Haarlem mercy-rules DSS twice; No-Hitter Bloeming
Nederlands
HAARLEM (Neth.) - Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem remained unbeaten on Saturday (May 9) by adding two mercy-rule victories at DSS.

On a windy afternoon, the reigning champion won with 11-0 and 10-0 scores.

Dagmar Bloeming threw a No-Hitter in the second game, which was her last for Sparks Haarlem. Virginie Anneveld also played in her last game for the team, hitting 2-for-2 with a double and scoring three runs, while batting in two. The two will leave shortly to start their professional career in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) in the USA.

(May 9)

Game 1

In the opener, Sparks Haarlem scored its eleven runs in the first two at bats, then was held scoreless in the next two innings by Quincey Catsburg. Sparks Haarlem collected 12 basehits, including three by Areke Spel, who also batted in three runs.

The tone was set in the first inning when Sparks Haarlem rallied for five runs. Chantal Versluis led off with a single and stole second base. She then moved when Nathalie Gosewehr reached on an error. Areke Spel followed with a single to bring in both runners and give Sparks Haarlem an early lead. After Spel was caught stealing, Karin Tuk and Virginie Anneveld walked. A single by Maxime van Dalen, followed by an outfield-error, then accounted for the next two runs. With two outs, Cindy van der Zanden added an RBI-single to make it a 5-0 score.

A 6-run rally followed in the second inning. This time, Versluis reached on an error and Gosewehr doubled. Areke Spel then singled in a run and Karin Tuk followed with a 2-run triple. A runscoring single by Virginie Anneveld, RBI-triple by Maxime van Dalen and runscoring grounder by Manoa Weijgertse then accounted for the next three runs and that increased the lead to 11-0.

Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the first inning, DSS appeared to do something back. With two outs, Morgan Sampson walked and Denice van Dijk singled, but then Kirsten Scheele closed with her third strikeout in the inning.

After having retired nine batters in a row, Scheele gave up back-to-back singles to Annemiek de Rover and Kelly Koeman with two outs in the fourth inning, but then ended the game with another strikeout.
